American Association of Health Plans – A national trade association of managed care plans.

American Medical Association – Collects information on physicians nationally, by state, and at the individual market level.

American Hospital Association – Collects information on hospitals nationally and at the state and regional level.

United States Census Data – Contains the latest population estimates and projections. Business census provides information on the economic indicators and industry statistics.

Statistical Abstract of the United States – This is a compendium and guide to statistics on just about everything in the U.S. The section on “Business Enterprises” includes incorporations, failures, small business data, and tax returns.

U.S. Center for Disease Control – State health profiles and disease statistics.

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics – The principal fact-finding agency for the Federal Government in the broad field of labor economics and statistics.

Health Care Financing Administration – The federal agency that administers Medicare, Medicaid, and Children’s Health Insurance Programs (CHIP).

Medicare Compare – A database that has information on costs, benefits and quality measures for regular Medicare and managed care plans serving Medicare beneficiaries. You can search by zip code, county or state.

New York Stock Exchange – Contains market information and links to listed companies.

NASDAQ Stock Exchange – Company symbol look up, current press releases relating to companies that are listed on NASDAQ.

State Medicaid Programs – Contains information and data on Medicaid enrollment (URLs are specific to each state)

State Department of Public Health – Contains regional health profiles and state disease statistics (URLs are specific to each state)

State Insurance Commission – Regulatory and licensing information (URLs specific to each state)

Plan Web Pages – Many health plans have web pages that contain descriptive information, health topics, information for providers, employers, and consumers. Search for the plan using a search engine such as yahoo, etc.

State Hospital and Health System Associations – Contains data and statistics relating to hospitals and health systems in the state.

State Medical Associations – Licensing information relating to providers.
