Captain Guidelines/Responsibilities
1.Training
1.1Be a point of contact, as well as Lead coach & Teamer, for availability and non-attendance to training/matches;
1.2Keep a register of teams attendance to training (or allocate), update Team Manager (Mel Clarke) and Lead coach (Hollie Wright) of any non-attendance as this will affect starting team line up;
1.3Take charge when instructed into team situation;
1.4Liaise withTeam Manager and Lead Coach for squad for upcoming match;
1.5Organise match arrangements:-
1.5.1Allocate refreshments for home matches;
1.5.2Sort travel arrangements for away matches;
1.5.3Jobs on match day (see 3, 4 and 5 below);
1.6Liaise with the umpire and check their travel arrangements – they may require a lift.
2. Post Training – Pre Saturday
2.1Receive and confirm receipt of ‘starting 7’ email from Team Manager. (This does not need to be relayed to the team until match day);
2.2Note Team Managers instructions if a player HAS to start a match due to category selections, and also possible rotations for the match;
2.3Ensure safety of any U18s within the squad i.e. lift sharing etc.
Match Day
3.Pre Match
3.1Arrive at the venue around 30-45 minutes before match;
3.2Warm up the squad (or allocate);
3.3Take team photo (to send with match report later);
3.4Speak to a level 2 coach (if they are staying to watch) and you would like assistance with coaching/tactics;
3.5Toss for centre with the other captain;
3.6Give the match ball to the umpires.
4.In the Match
4.1Play Netball!
4.2Captain/Vice-Captain (possibly Coach) chat at quarter times – discussing rotation of players if necessary;
4.3If there are any questions or disputes, the captain is the only one who can approach the umpires;
4.4If at home - half time, give sweets/oranges to the opposition (or allocate);
5.Post Match
5.1Lead 3 cheers for the opposition, umpires and spectators;
5.2Make sure the two scorers agree with the score;
5.3Thank the umpires & scorers;
5.4Cool down the squad (or allocate);
5.5Collect in all bibs, balls and other equipment (or allocate);
5.6Fill in the results/score sheet with starting 7 and any subs that played. Sign it when happy with the score;
5.7Hand to the umpires to sign & the opposition;
5.8If home team, keep the results/score sheet and send into the County Fixtures Secretaryand Umpiring Secretary (emails below) via email (take a photo).Make sure the date, teams & score are stated in the email subject line:-

5.9If at home, set up refreshments and start hot drinks (or allocate);
5.10Collect match fees (or allocate);
5.11Pay the umpire (Home £10, Away £15) (or allocate);
5.12If at an away match, pay the drivers as per the costs in the front of the subs book (or allocate);
5.13Squad to vote for Oppositions and Player of the Match (or allocate);
5.14Send starting 7 (and subs) to Affiliations Secretary (or allocate);
5.15Write up the match report (template online) and send into Marketing (Hollie Wright)with photo by Sunday 5pm (or allocate):
6. Other possible duties
6.1Act as a filter of information between the club, players and coach;
6.2Attend Captain’s meetings with the Lead Coach and other captains;
6.3Motivate players at training and matches;
6.4Ensure U18 emergency contact information is in the kit bag at all times;
6.5Ensure all players conduct themselves in a manner that reflects well on the team and club;
6.6Ensure all social media is of an appropriate language for all ages and do not tag players. (See Social Media and Photography Policy – on website)
7. Jobs to delegate to your Squad
7.1Training register;
7.2Store and maintain equipment i.e. tube of balls, kit bag, bibs, money pot etc;
7.3Arranging refreshments for matches;
7.4Arranging travel arrangements of players/umpire;
7.5Collecting match fees;
7.6Conducting the team warm up/cool down;
7.7Player of the match voting organisation (after match);
7.8Writing the match report and taking team photo;
7.9Anything else you can think of!
