ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR 2009– 2010

OVERVIEW :

The institutional Based Rehabilitation project ` SEED ‘ for the welfare of the children of LIFE PRISONERS, VICTIMS OF SERIOUS CRIMES LIKE MURDER and LEPROSY PATIENTS commenced in Jan. 1982 This project provides service to an approximate number of 264 Socially Disabled Children of 4-20 age group in the target area in which 75 are the children of LIFE PRISONERS, 35 are the children of LEPROSY PATIENTS , 4 are the Children of Tsunami Affected Families, 22 children are the Orphan children , 63 children are the children of Single Parent families, 65 children belong to the families living under poverty line and runs its activities in two villages of Sriperumbudur Taluk, Kancheepuram District namely Venkatrangam Pillai Chatiram and Irungattukottai and one village in Poonamallee Taluk, Thiruvellore District namely Utkottai village in Tamil Nadu State. This project works with the direct support of 23Professional and 8 non professional staff members who carry out grass root level, supervisory and managerial jobs. The project also takes support of the well wishers, Local Community, , State Bank of India , Canara Bank,, Ramachandra Medical College & Hospital, income tax employees, Rajasthan Youth Association – Food Bank ( Metro ), Social Welfare Department, Tamilnadu Social Welfare Board, Directorate of Employment & Training, Friends Association for Social Service ( FASS), Ramakrishna Mission , Friends City Welfare Association, Education Department – Tamil Nadu, Educational Institutions, other NGOs and Government Institutions in the target area. The Project has the partnership with ` Canara Bank Centenary Rural Development Trust, Canara Bank, LES AMIS DE SEED – France, , LES AMIS DE SOEUR IMMANUALLEE , France , ASHA – ST. LOUIS- U.S.A., Charity works - cyprus, charity foundation london, NIRANJAN N RATNAKAR & Children of seed trust. uk.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR 2009 –2010

The Major activities of SEED is to provide institutional care which will enable the children of Life Prisoners and Leprosy Patients to free themselves from their existing way of Life and lead a simple life with dignity.

EDUCATION:

  • In our ResidentialPrimary School Project at Sriperumbudur Main Centre, 95children were staying and studying during the year 2009-2010
  • 40Children belong to families of LIFE PRISONERS
  • 28 Children belong to the families of LEPROSY PATIENTS.
  • 7 Children lost both the parents.
  • 18 Children belong to the families of SINGLE PARENTS.
  • 2 Children belong to the families of Below poverty line
  • In our ResidentialHigh School project at Utkottai Centre, 82 Children werestaying and studying during the year 2009-2010
  • 26Children belong to the families of LIFE PRISONERS.
  • 7Children belong to the families of LEPROSY PATIENTS.
  • 39 children belong to the families of SINGLE PARENTS .
  • 4 Children belong to TSUNAMI AFFECTED FAMILIES
  • 3 Children belong to the families of below poverty line.
  • 3 Children lost both the parents
  • In our Special & Free Industrial Training Centre, 87Children were studying during the year 2009-2010.
  • 9Children belong to the families of LIFE PRISONERS..
  • 12 Children lost both the parents.
  • - 6 children belong to the families of SINGLE PARENTS .
  • 60 Children belong to the families living under poverty line

During this academic year 2009 –2010, 23Children of LIFE PRISONERS , 10 Children of Leprosy Patients, and 20children of Single Parent families, 3 children who have lost both the parents and 33 children belong to the families living under poverty line had been newly admitted in ` SEED ‘.

  • In the Annual Examination held in 2009 ,100% of Primary School children had been promoted to higher classes in which 39% belong to the families Life Prisoners and 27% belong to the families of Leprosy Patients, 8.33% belong to orphan category and 25% belong to Single Parents families.
  • In high School , 100% children had been promoted to higher classes in which 36.9% belong to the families of Life Prisoners , 16.8% belong to the families of Leprosy Patients, 3.36% belong to Orphan category , 36.9% children belong to Single Parent families and 2.5% children belong to the Tsunami affected families and 3.36 % are the children below poverty line. .
  • 14 Children of Sriperumbudur centre had been Promoted to VI th. Std. in which 7 children are the children of Life Prisoners, 1child is from the family ofLeprosy Patients, 2 children lost both the parents, 4children belong to single parent family and 1 child is an orphan child.
  • All the 38 High School girls have been successfully promoted to higher classes in which 47.3% belong to the families of Life Prisoners, 34 % belong to the families of Leprosy Patients,13.1% belong to Single Parent families and 5.2 %children are orphan children.
  • 22Children of Utkottai & Sriperumbudur Centres had been promoted to X Std. (i.e.) School Final in which Eight children are the children of Life Prisoners,One child belongs to the families of Leprosy Patients, Elevenchildren belong to the families of Single parents , one child belongs to Tsunami affected family and One child is an Orphan child.
  • In Secondary School Leaving Certificate ( School Final ) Examination held in April2009, 27children have successfully passed in which Thirteen children are the children of Life Prisoners,Five children are the children Leprosy Patients, Sixchildren belong to the families of Single parents , One child belong to Tsunami affected family, One child belong to the poverty stricken, family and One child is an orphan child..
  • S.Ammu ( Both parents Leprosy Patients ) , studied in our Project from I std to +2 (12th Class ) and now she is working as Lab Assistant (Studio )
  • G.Suganya ( Father Life Prisoner at Madurai Central Prison ) , studied in our Project from 5th Std. to + 2 ( 12th Class ) and now she is working as House Mother in our Project.
  • S.Karpagavalli ( Father life Prisoner at Palayamkottai Central Prison ), studied in our Project from 8th Std to +2 ( 12th Class ) and she has been selected as WomanPolice Constable.
  • A.Aruna ( Father life Prisoner at VelloreCentral Prison ), studied in our Project from 6thStd. to +2 ( 12th Class ) and now she is Studying Diploma in Nursing course at her native place.
  • M.Muthulakshmi ( Both parents Leprosy Patients ), studied in our Project from 1st Std., to +2 ( Completed 12th Class )
  • K.Mani ( Father Life Prisoner at Coimbatore Central Prison and Mother Life Prisoner at Vellore Central Prison for Women ), studied in SEED from 3rd std. , secured 425/500 marks in his school final examination ( S S L C ) and got admission in Diploma in Automobile Engineering at Ramakrishna Mission Polytechnic College
  • S.Prasanth ( Father died ) studied in SEED from 8th Standard secured 457/500 marks in his school final examination ( S S L C ) and got admission in Diploma in Mechanical Engineering at Ramakrishna Mission Polytechnic College
  • M.Sakthivel ( Father Died ) studied in SEED from 6th standard, secured 410/500 marks in his school final examination ( S S L C ) and got admission in Diploma in Automobile Engineering at Ramakrishna Mission Polytechnic College.
  • M.Thirunavukarasu ( Father Died ) studied in SEED from 6th standard, secured 410/500 marks in his school final examination ( S S L C ) and got admission in Diploma in Automobile Engineering at Ramakrishna Mission Polytechnic College.
  • G.Rajesh ( Father Died ) studied in SEED from 6th standard, secured 373/500 marks in his school final examination ( S S L C ) and got admission in Diploma in Computer Engineering at Ramakrishna Mission Polytechnic College
  • K.Bakiyaraj ( Father Life Prisoner at Madurai Central Prison ) studied in SEED from 7th standard, secured 409/500 marks in his school final examination ( S S L C ) and got admission in +1 ( 11th Standard ) at Madurai
  • R.Lokesh ( Father died ) studied in SEED from 1st standard, secured 399/500 marks in his school final examination ( S S L C ) and got admission in +1 ( 11th standard ) at Ulundurepet.
  • R.Sankar ( Father died ) studied in SEED from 1st standard, secured 272/500 marks in his school final examination ( S S L C ) and got admission in +1 ( Eleventh standard ) atUlundurepet
  • M.Ragulsing ( Father Life Prisoner at Vellore Central Prison ) studied in SEED from 1st standard, secured 351/500 marks in his school final examination ( S S L C ) and got admission in +1 ( 11th standard ) at Vellore.
  • M.Ramakrishnan ( Father and Mother affected by Leprosy ) studied in SEED from 1st standard, secured 272/500 marks in his school final examination ( S S L C ) and got admission in +1 ( 11th standard ) at Ulundurepet
  • B.Gopalmani (Tsunami affected families) studied in SEED from 7th Std., successfully passed his school final examination and got admission in +1 ( 11th standard ) .
  • M.Karuppasamy (Father Life Prisoner at Madurai Central Prison ) studied in SEED from 7th Std., successfully passed his school final examination and got admission in +1 ( Eleventh standard ) at Madurai.
  • S.Vazivittan (Father Life Prisoner at Madurai Central Prison ) studied in SEED from 1st Std., successfully passed his school final examination and admitted in our Industrial Training Institute in the beginning of the academic year 2009–2010.in Mechanic ( Motor Vehicle ) Trade .
  • N.Siva ( Father Life Prisoner at Madurai Central Prison ) studied in SEED from 1st Std., successfully passed his school final examination and admitted in our Industrial Training Institute in the beginning of the academic year 2009-2010 in Mechanic ( Motor Vehicle ) Trade.
  • C.Yuvaraj ( Father Died ) studied in SEED from 9th Std., successfully passed his school final examination and admitted in our Industrial Training Institute in the beginning of the academic year 2009-2010 in Fitter Trade.
  • E.Karunakaran ( Below Poverty line )studied in SEED from 9th Std., successfully passed his school final examination and admitted in our Industrial Training Institute in the beginning of the academic year 2009-2010 in Mechanic ( Motor Vehicle ) trade.
  • R. Praba , an Orphan child , studied in SEED from 3rd Std., successfully passed her school final examination and admitted in our Industrial Training Institute in the beginning of the academic year 2009-2010 inElectronic - Mechanic ( Instrumentation ) trade
  • S. Parameswari ( Father Life Prisoner at Coimbatore Central Prison ) studied in SEED from 7th Std., successfully passed her school final examination and admitted in our Industrial Training Institute in the beginning of the academic year 2009-2010 in Electronic ( Mechanic) Instrumentation trade
  • A.Annanthi ( Father Life Prisoner at Vellore Central Prison ) studied in SEED from 4th Std., successfully passed her school final examination and admitted in our Industrial Training Institute in the beginning of the academic year 2009-2010 in Electronic - Mechanic Instrumentation trade
  • K.Kanaga (Father Life Prisoner at Coimbatore Central Prison and Mother Life prisoner at vellore central prison for women ) studied in SEED from 3rd Std., successfully passed her school final examination and got admission in +1 ( Eleventh Standard ) at Perambur, Chennai
  • K. Sevanthi (Father Life Prisoner at vellore central prison ) studied in SEED from 3rd Std., successfully passed her school final examination and got admission in +1 ( Eleventh Standard ) at Perambur, Chennai

  • Poolandevi (Mother life prisoner at vellore central prison for women ) studied in SEED from 3rd Std., successfully passed her school final examination and got admission in +1 ( Eleventh Standard ) at Neyveli
  • K. Valli ( Father affected by Leprosy ) , studied in our Project from 8th Std. to + 2 ( 12th Class ) and now she is working as House Mother in our Project
  • P. Valli ( Father Died ) , studied in our Project from 1st Std. to + 2 ( 12th Class ) Now, she has been admitted in our Industrial Training Institute in the beginning of the academic year 2009-2010 in Electronics - Mechanic Instrumentation trade
  • J.Sathiya ( Father Life Prisoner at Trichy central Prison ) studied in our Project from 3rd Std. to + 2 ( 12th Class ) and admitted in Diploma In Teacher Training course at Kulasekarapattinam.
  • S.Banumathi (Father Life Prisoner at Coimbatore Central Prison )studied in our Project from 4th Std. to + 2 ( 12th Class ) and now she is studying in Diploma In Teacher Training course at Erode.
  • N.Punitha ( Father Died ) studied in our Project from 4th Std. to + 2 ( 12th Class ) and now she is studying in BCA Computer Training course at Dharmapuri.
  • M.Alagulakshmi ( Father Life Prisoner at Madurai Central Prison ) studied in our project from 3rd std, to +2 ( 12th class ) and got married.

SPECIAL & FREE INDUSTRIAL TRAINING CENTRE :

The major activities of this ‘ SPECIAL & FREE INDUSTRIAL TRAINING CENTRE is providing job oriented industrial training in the popular trades, viz., FITTER, ELECTRICIAN, MECHANIC (MOTOR VEHICLE), ELECTRONICS – MECHANIC and CUTTING TAILORING for the children of LIFE PRISONERS, LEPROSY PATIENTS, VICTIMS OF SERIOUS CRIMES LIKE MURDER AND ALSO FOR THE CHILDREN WHOSE PARENTS DIED IN ' TSUNAMI '

  • 100% of the children studying in various trades in this institute have successfully passed in this ‘ALL INDIA TRADE TEST, conducted by National Council for Vocational Trades, Government of India on 01.08.2009
  • On 16th August 2009, new admission started at our I.T.I. and the students were selectedon the basis of their family background and marks through spot inspection carried on by the staff members of our I.T.I to know the real situation prevailed in the families of the candidates

Apart from the revision Test, conducted for the second year students before their final examination, monthly tests were also conducted to evaluate the performance of the students in their education.

Field Visit :

In the month of May 2009, all the second year students of our I.T.I. visited Periyar Planatorium at Kotturpuram, Chennai as part of their field visit.

  • 99% of the children studying in various Trades in our Industrial Training Institute have successfully passed in their final examination (National Trade Test) , conducted by the Government of India in the month of July 2009.

CERTAIN MILESTONE IN OUR JOURNEY FOR THE WELFARE OF OUR NEEDY CHILDREN

  • G.Karthick ( Father Died ) successfully Completed Diploma in Mechanical Engineering at Ramakrishna Mission Polytechnic College Mylapore , Chennai.
  • Sundaraman ( Father Died ) successfully Completed Diploma in Mechanical Engineering at Ramakrishna Mission Polytechnic College Mylapore , Chennai.
  • M.Muthulakshmi ( Father Life Prisoner at Trichy central Prison ), has secured 1st , Rank in VI Std. in all her examinations.
  • M. Lakshmi ( Father and Mother Died ) has secured 1st Rank in VI Std. in all her examinations
  • A.Sathiya (Deserted child ) secured 2nd Rank in VII std. in all her examinations.
  • S.Mangaiyarkarasi , (Father and Mother affected by Leprosy ), got 1st. Rank in I Std. in all her examinations
  • S.Ramar , (Father Life Prisoner at Cuddalore Central Prison ), secured I St. Rank in II std. in all his examinations
  • N.Kalpana , (Deserted by her mother ) got I rank in III Std. in all herexaminations.
  • B.Suriya (Both parents died ) secured I rank in IV std. in all her examinations.
  • V.Suriya (Father Died ) secured I rank in IV std. in all her examinations

VOCATIONAL TRAINING :

  • In our Primary School , we are giving training in Mat Weaving, Plastic Wire Bag Making, Garland Making, Toys making, Flower Pot making, Tailoring, Computer Training, etc. apart from regular academic education.
  • 20children of Life Prisoners, 10children of Leprosy Patients and 16children of Single Parent familiesand 2Orphan Children got training in plastic wire bag making, flower pot & toys making in our Primary School.
  • 18Children of Life Prisoners,10children of Leprosy Patients and 22 children of

Single Parent families and 1 orphan child got Computer Training in our Primary

School.

  • Regarding, high school girls staying in our Sriperumbudur Centre, 30Children of Life Prisoners , 4children of Leprosy Patients, 7 children of Single Parent families and One Orphan child got ComputerTraining.
  • In our High School project at Utkottai Centre, we are giving Vocational Training in Horticulture & Agriculture and Dairy Farm and also in Computer Programmes apart from their academic education.
