Absences

Regular attendance is considered critical. Students who have frequent or lengthy absences are unlikely to succeed in the course and may be asked to withdraw or select an alternative course.

Course Evaluation

The final grade for this course is based on two factors:

  • A cumulative calculation of the entire semester’s work worth 80%.
  • The final examination worth 20%.

The semester’s work will include: assignments in the form of short answer questions, paragraph answers, open book tests, an essay, quizzes, projects, presentations and unit tests. Students will also be expected store their reading guide questions in a binder and, from time to time, to take notes on teacher lead presentations and store them in the binder as well. Students will be expected to complete all basic assignments and obtain a final grade of 50% or better to complete the course.

An accurate and up to date mark record sheet should be maintained by each student. This will allow the student to know the percentage result on each assignment/test and a cumulative to date percentage.

Open Door Policy

The goal for every Social Studies student is to pass the course. Socials Studies 11 Internet is a fast pace course that requires some computer skills, and focus during class time to get through the course content. If a student falls behind on course work (and some will) it is expected they will e-mail home, copy to disc, or take home hard copies of their assignments. It is also expected that students will come to me with individual concerns before they become significant problems. The Computer Lab in Rm. 219 will be open at lunchtime, and I will be available to help students who have course concerns. Students may also access the course from computers in other Labs and the Library. It is also common for me to expect students, who are behind in course work or have missed classes, to be in the room at lunchtime on these days. If a student is disruptive in class they may also be asked to attend lunchtime sessions (in other words have a detention).

Let’s have a good semester and get every one through the course.
