So… what is ACEs?

AIDS Community Educators (ACEs) is UCT’s Peer Education programme of HAICU (HIV/AIDS Institutional Co-ordinational Unit). The main aim of the programme is for students to actively engage with HIV and AIDS

on campus through:

·  Leadership in HIV/AIDS – ACEs show leadership through their support and involvement in HIV/AIDS initiatives on campus

·  Personal Development – ACEs are encouraged through training and supervision to develop as world class individuals

·  Campus Campaigns – ACEs engage with the UCT campus community through social events and campaigns

·  Educating peers – ACEs run workshops on campus and engage students in informal conversations – champion chats - about HIV/AIDS-related topics

As an ACE you will receive:

·  HIV-related training – Prevention & Treatment Literacy, Gender, Relationships and HIV and Stigma

·  T-shirt

·  Service Certificate

·  Leadership Skills (communication and facilitation)

Please note if your application is successful it is imperative for you to attend the first training on 12th & 13th October 2013 and to return to campus by mid-January 2014 (date to be advised). It is important that you advise if you have other commitments in January 2014.
