Data Protection Act 1998
A framework of rights and duties which are designed to protect the processing of personal information thatcan identify living individuals. In this context these are service users, patients or staff.
Data Processing
Obtaining, recording or holding data, whether on computer, paper or any other media.
Personal Data
Data from which it is possible to identify a living individual. The identification may be on the basis of the data alone, or in conjunction with information that may reasonably be available from other sources.
Data Controller
A person who alone, or jointly, determines the purposes for which, and the manner in which, data is processed.
Shetland Data Sharing Partnership
A joint committee with representatives from NHS, Local Government, Police and Voluntary Action Shetland which agrees local policy and procedures in relation to information sharing to support partnership working.
Shetland Data Sharing Policy
The policy which defines in general terms, how data is shared between partner organisations.
Data Sharing Agreement(previously called Information Sharing Agreement)
A template specified by the Shetland Data Sharing Policy which covers specifically a situation where there is particular and regular transfer of personal data.
Privacy Impact Assessment
A risk assessment which identifies how a specific project may affect personal privacy, or, have potential adverse effects in relation to personal information. Recommendations can be included regarding controls which might be put into place to mitigateany identified risk.
Privacy Notice
A public notice which describes to individuals how their data is used by an organisation.
