Call for Applications: CEETL Lecturer Faculty Fellow

In this inaugural year, fellows will be crucial to establishing the culture of CEETL. Together, the Faculty Fellows and Faculty Director will launch CEETL and shape the direction of its future.

Eligibility

All full-time or part-time lecturers with a three-year contract or the equivalent of 6 years teaching experience at SF State are eligible to apply to become the CEETL Lecturer Faculty Fellow.

Fellowship Period and Compensation

The Lecturer Faculty Fellow will receive an assignment with CEETL equivalent to 3 WTUs each semester. The assignment with CEETL will be made through the lecturer’s home department and will be counted towards the lecturer’sentitlement in their department. The department will be compensated for the lecturer replacement for the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018. The fellowship also includes a summer assignment to be compensated proportional to the responsibilities of the summer work.

Fellowship Expectations

CEETL Faculty Fellows will work as a team to shape the culture and ongoing operations of the center. The primary responsibility of the CEETL Lecturer Faculty Fellow will be to help establish and shape the infrastructure in CEETL that will successfully support lecturer faculty at SF State. For example, the fellow will:

  • Work with various units on campus to establish communication infrastructure for lecturers;
  • Help to launch a public channel for periodic communications to lecturers, such as a newsletter or blog;
  • Establish a method of ongoing communication among lecturers to foster communication and community among lecturers;
  • Help establish a Lecturer Resources webpage on CEETL’s website;
  • Work with various units on campus to identify needs specific to lecturers on campus;
  • Take the lead on creating and promoting activities within CEETL geared toward lecturers;
  • With the Faculty Center Director create orientation materials and organize orientations for new lecturer faculty.
  • Participate in periodic meetings with the Dean of Faculty Affairs to serve as a conduit for lecturer concerns and to collaborate on emerging topics and issues relevant to lecturers.
  • Provide ongoing recommendations regarding lecturer inclusion and support at SF State to the CEETL Faculty Director.
  • Write a year-end report summarizing progress and accomplishments of the lecturer-based initiatives with recommendations, due in May.

The CEETL Lecturer Faculty Fellow will also contribute to the operations of CEETL. Upon selection, the fellow will work with the CEETL Faculty Director to articulate specific duties and expectations, including:

  • Attending twice-monthly planning meetings with the CEETL Faculty Director and CEETL fellows to plan and assess CEETL programming and operations;
  • Promoting, evaluating, and advocating for CEETL;
  • Developing and leading a workshop, discussion session, institute, or guest lecture about a pedagogical topic related to emergent campus needs;
  • Serving as a liaison with at least one affiliated university committee or groups (METRO, SF Build, WAC/WID, PDC, etc.);
  • Mentoring faculty members on pedagogy;
  • Presenting at a conference about the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL);
  • Assisting with New Faculty Orientation and the winter Faculty Retreat.

Selection Criteria and Process

A selection committee (composed of the CEETL Faculty Co-Directors, the CEETL Advisory Board, and in consultation with theProvost) will consider the following criteria:

  1. The applicant has a strong commitment to collegiality, collaboration, and teamwork;
  2. The applicant has an established network on campus with other lecturer faculty or has a demonstrated ability to establish such a network on campus;
  3. The applicant has a record of quality and commitment as a teacher/scholar and leader in building faculty community;
  4. The applicant demonstrates a willingness to champion the development of CEETL in its inaugural year;
  5. The applicant has special perspectives, skills, or experiences that would contribute to CEETL.

Offer will be extended in late May.
