TheSenior Projectisan opportunityfor studentsto followtheir passion. Studentspick a project that offersan opportunityfor“personal growth.” Projectsmust beanewlearning experienceorasignificantexpansionofapreviousexperience. What mattersarethe“ahaa” moments, thenewinsights, skillsand understanding gained fromparticipationin theproject. Akeycomponent isthat thisisaself-directed processmentored byan expert.Thestudentis asked to solverealproblems, applyemergingskillsto new situations, andto taketimefor reflection oftheirnewlearning.

Theheartoftheproject isstudent reflection on whattheyhave accomplished.Theentriesto theLearningLogwill describeandexplain thecircumstances surroundingareasofpersonal growth. What could bebetterthan for studentsto reactto somethingthey’velearned about themselves, about others,about job skills, aboutcommunicationand collaboration,about overcomingconflict, about a changeinattitudeor about life?

Fundraising is not encouragedas a Senior Project. Ifit is a component ofyour project, youmustmeetwith Glenna Stilesforfurtherdetails.

SENIORPROJECTLEARNING LOG/JOURNAL

TheLearningLogisarequired partoftheSenior Project and will beturnedinat a designatedtime. When workingon theproject, students should recordall noteworthy experiencesinthisjournal.ExamplesfromtheLog will beused to writetherequired overviewand will provideinterestingdetailsfor thepresentation.

TheLogrecordsthelearningmomentsthroughout the20-hour Senior Project experience. Students willdeterminethedepth and breadth oftheir Log. It should be detailed enough toexplorethetemporarysetbacks, small victories, andthe“ahaa” moments when newinsightsand skills wererealized. Using your transcript, highlight examplesthat demonstrate academic

growth during your four-year high schoolcareer. Examples should be specific,and areasofstrengthsand weaknesses should beaddressed.

B. Personal Growth(2-3 Min)

Using your activitysheet, highlight after schooland/or community-based activitiesin which you havebeen involved. Examples should bespecific.

Thebodyofthespeech describestheSenior Projectlearningexperiences. The student will buildthebodyoftheir speech usinglearninglogentries. These

descriptions/understandingsmaybedescribedin sequence, i.e. fromdayone

to daytwo, etcetera. Another choicemight beto prioritizebydescribingmost to theleast valuablelearningexperience. In eithercase, thestudent must provide authenticreflectionsfromtheir learninglog.

Part4 Conclusion(1-2 Min)

Thestudent will summarizewhat he/shelearned and commentabout the worth oftheproject andthevalueofthesenior project requirement.
