Course Description: The Intermediate High School physical education program is an introduction to a wide variety of lifetime individual and teaming activities. These include swimming strokes, water safety, water sports, and racquet sports. Additionally, cooperative challenges, indoor court, and field sports are introduced with an emphasis on teaming methods. Students will learn proper training techniques and various programs to best utilize a fitness center in the areas of lifetime weight training and aerobic fitness.

GRADES: Physical Education class is based on five (5) points per class period. Each student must dress appropriately for PE class. Students who do not dress appropriately will lose 10 points for being unprepared and will not be permitted to participate.

ABSENCES/SUSPENSIONS: Absence without an excuse or suspension will result in achieving zero (0) points for that class. If a medical excuse can be provided, no points will be earned or deducted.

MEDICAL EXCUSES: Medical excuses for Physical Education class must be written by a doctor with the termination date of the excuse included on it. Students who are medically excused for more than 60% of a semester must see their Guidance Councilor to reschedule Physical Education class.

PARENTAL EXCUSES: Excuses from home are treated the same as a class absence. No credit is received and the class must be made up.

MAKE-UPS: Students should arrange to make-up classes with their Physical Education teacher during their study hall.

LOCKER ROOM RULES

  • No Locks
  • Lock all valuable possessions in the locker room office at all times. We are not responsible for missing items.
  • Please no GLASS items.
  • During class only enter locker room with permission from your teacher.
  • Walk for safety.
  • No cell phone use. School rules apply.
  • Keep the locker room clean.

RECOMMENDED CLOTHING

  • SHORTS & SWEATPANTS: Wear dark colored shorts or sweatpants that follow school rules.
  • TOP: T-shirts, sweat shirts or any other school appropriate attire.
  • FOOTWEAR: Clean sneakers are required. No boots, sandals or any other additional footwear.

SWIMMING RULES AND ATTIRE

  • PROPER ATTIRE:
  • Swimsuits should be appropriate for co-ed classes.
  • Goggles (optional)
  • Sandals (optional)
  • Swim caps (optional)
  • SAFETY:
  • WALK at all times in the locker room and pool area.
  • NO ONE is permitted to enter the pool area unless a teacher is present.
  • NO DIVING unless permitted by the teacher.
  • Always ENTER feet first.
  • Diving boards may be used only when permitted by a teacher & at your own risk.
  • No jewelry, bandages, gum, food, drink, etc. in the pool area.
  • LOCKER ROOM SUGGESTIONS
  • Keep all water IN the shower area and AWAY from the dressing areas.
  • Turn OFF the showers once you are finished.
  • Bring a small towel to keep in your locker.
  • Keep valuables in locker room office.
