SELECTIVE UNIT 3 (S03)

(Ukulele)

(June 2015)

Unit Statement: The student will learn to play simple melodies on a simple sting instrument. Through this course, students will become acquainted with the treble clef staff of the written music and follow along with a simple chords.

Essential Outcomes: (assessed for mastery)

1. The Student Will explain the concept of the written staff in general in terms of its lines, spaces.

2. TSW identify triple time signatures and follow simple ukulele chords in those meters.

3. TSW play the differences between quarter, half, whole, and eighth notes and rests.

4. TSW identify and describe the family of instruments the Ukulele belongs to (String) and learn about additional string instruments.

5. TSW practice posture, hand and finger placement.

6. TSW finger several chords and demonstrate understanding of how they correspond to actual written chords in order to play simple melodies.

7. TSW maintain their class instrument and keep their ukulele in working order.

8. TSW listen in order to blend with a group of other players.

9. TSW play an exit song for the teacher to demonstrate mastery of the unit.

Optional outcome: (to be used if student cannot attend school performance)

10. TSW perform selections for peers or families.
