Secretary’s Report (Susan Schlosstein)

  • March 23, 2015 Minutes approved and filed.
  • A quorum is present

President’s Report (Kirsten Juenke)

  • PTSA 2015/2015 Goals announced and posted on PTSA website. Have increased our membership goal to 85%. Ahead over last year. Message is numbers matter and give a stronger voice in Washington. Staff membership is at 61%. Goal building a sense of community has had an idea proposed to have students attend a free school event (such as musical concert, plays, sporting events) to show support for other students. Motion made to approve our 2015/2016 PTSA goals, motion seconded, motion passed.
  • 2015/2016 Standing Rules presented. Minor changes—“general membership” changed to “membership”. Motion made to approve our 2015/2015 Standing Rules, motion seconded, motion passed.

Treasurer’s Report (Kirsten Juenke)

  • Financial Review conducted on July 8, 2015 by Patty Grembowski, Susan Schlosstein and Tina Yerges. A small deviation in final bank balance was later found to be a mistake in a spreadsheet calculation and has been corrected.
  • There is a $7,000 surplus from the prior year and a decision was made at the 9/17 board meeting put $1,000 into Fall Grants, $1,000 into Curriculum Support and $5,000 into a Special Grant Fund to be used in the 2015/2016 school year. Spring grants may be increased over last year.
  • Financials for July, August, and September were presented. Note September is only partial as we are still in the month. Financials will be filed as presented.

Membership Committee (Kirsten Juenke)

  • Currently 1277 members. 58% membership. Slightly above last year.

Student Grant Committee (Kirsten Juenke)

  • Have received one request. Student needs an advisor and a clearer statement of purpose.

Teacher Appreciation

  • Went very well. Teachers appreciative.

Reflections

  • Neha Parikh will run this again. Information is posted on PTSA website.

Spartan Grants Committee (Kirsten Juenke)

  • First meeting October 22, 2015

Parent Education (Diana Moore)

  • Due to a facilities conflict looking for a new date for “sexual safety” parent education.

Principal’sReport (Donna Hood)

  • 14 new certificated staff.
  • Curriculum night successful.
  • New Swedish Hospital mental health professional. Will be with Skyline for awhile
  • Will still have Eastside Fire and Rescue presentation about distracted driving for all sophomores.
  • Possibility of staging a car crash scene in the field closer to prom to help students see the consequences of distracted driving. ASB is supportive of this. This program is reserved for juniors and seniors and is a powerful experience for students to see. Additionally, firefighters get a chance to practice.

New Business

Legislative Assembly is October 24 and Alicia Veevaert will attend as SHS representative.
