SAFTEY ON THE WALK

Every year people are injured on the hills. It is therefore important to be well equipped and aware of the hazards that are present in order to minimize risk. Weather can change quickly. What starts out as a pleasant stroll on a fine day on a well-trodden path can turn into a battle against a blizzard.

Properly fitted walking boots are highly recommended they provide support for the ankle and protection for the foot on rough ground.

Denim jeans are not advisable as they are cold when wet, and take a long time to dry.

A waterproof anorak or cagoule and over trousers are essential to keep out wind and rain.

Gloves and a hat should always be carried as well as spare clothing, a small first-aid kit, and a whistle.

It is important to carry enough drinking water to prevent dehydration.

If, during the walk, you need to contact another walker, (or the bus) there will be a list of mobile phone numbers with each group. Phone Ruth (07960 032394) or Steve (07742 663135) for the required number. IF YOU HAVE A MOBILE PHONE PLEASE LEAVE IT TURNED ON SO THAT YOU MAY BE CONTACTED IF NECESSARY.

Please consider entering emergency contacts in your mobile phone address book under the name “ICE”. This will, if necessary, enable first responders (paramedics etc) to find relevant contacts.
