Check wristbands

Enforce campground rules

Check vehicles for Parking Passes

Enforce audience and Concession area safety

Assist in emergencies and assist Park personnel

CHECK WRISTBANDS

Inform people without wristbands that they must be wearing a wristband to be allowed at the Festival.

Escort people without wristbands to the Front Gate or Funds trailer so that they may buy a wristband.

If a gate crasher refuses to buy a wristband or if another problem arises, contact your Security Monitor for assistance. Stay with the person until help arrives.

ENFORCE CAMPGROUND RULES

QUIET CAMPING: Quiet camping areas are to the west of the 2nd stage and on the point beyond the beach. These are posted as Quiet Camping. Security workers are to assure that noise that will disturb others around them will not occur during the hours of 10 PM to 7 AM. Noise is defined as loud talking or music that disturbs others nearby that are trying to sleep.

t  Ask noisy people in these areas to quiet down so they do not disturb others. Warn them that they must be quiet or they may be asked to move their camp or leave the Festival site. Fill out an Incident Report card noting the campsite number or location, the time, and that a warning was given. Give the Incident Report to the Security Monitor at the end of your shift.

t  If a noise problem continues after a warning is given, contact your Security monitor. Assist the Monitor if needed

MUSICIAN’S CAMPING: People in areas behind the Main Stage and elsewhere not specifically

designated as Quiet Camping are permitted to play acoustic music, talk, or otherwise party all night long. Destructive, aggressive, or otherwise excessively disruptive behavior is not permitted. Contact your Security Monitor if these problems arise.

t  If campers in these areas complain of noise that is not excessive, inform them that this is not a specified Quiet campsite and that noise is permitted. Offer to give them free earplugs or to contact your Security Monitor for them.

TEEN CAMPING: All campers under the age of 18 must be under the supervision of an adult parent or guardian present at the campsite. A curfew of 12 midnight is in effect for persons under the age of 18. After 12 midnight these persons must be under close and direct adult supervision.

t  Disruptive Teens: Locate the adult guardian who is responsible for the teen. Inform the guardian of the problem and warn them that the teens disruptive behavior must be controlled or all parties involved may be removed from the Festival grounds. If no responsible guardian is present on site contact the Security Monitor who may remove the offenders.

PETS: Pets are not allowed at the Festival. If you find a pet’s owner inform him that the pet must be removed from the Festival. Escort him/her to the Security Tent where the Monitor can assist in contacting a kennel. If the owner can not be found or will not come to the Security Tent, contact the Security Monitor.

FIRES: No ground fires are permitted in the Park. All fires must be contained in regulation campground fire rings. Contact the Security Monitor for assistance with illegal fires.

CHECK VEHICLES FOR PARKING PASSES

All vehicles parked within the Park must have a Parking Pass displayed in the windshield. If no Pass is displayed, post a notice on the car and inform the Monitor of the car’s location, make, color, and licence number; an announcement may be made from the stage. If the car is not moved in 2 hours, inform the Monitor who may have the car towed away.

AUDIENCE AND CONCESSION AREA SAFETY

t  Absolutely no bicycles, skateboards, or roller blades are allowed in the Concession Area. Inform offenders of this rule and escort them out of the area.

t  No frisbees, volleyballs, or other outdoor ball games are allowed in any Stage or Workshop area. Inform offenders of this rule and ask them to move to a suitable area.

t  Tall chairs are not allowed in the “Blankets Only” area in front of the Main Stage; low chairs/back supports are allowed. Inform offenders of this rule and ask them to move to the chair section of the audience area.

t  Monitor the children’s play in the playground area. Stop any dangerous or harmful activity and inform the child’s guardian of the problem.

EMERGENCIES AND PARK PERSONNEL

t  Assist people in the event of emergencies by contacting the Security Monitor, escorting people to the First Aid Tent if needed, or otherwise help as needed.

t  Assist the Park personnel as they clean the bathrooms by preventing people from entering the bathroom until it cleaned.

SECURITY MONITORS PROCEDURES

Be courteous and respectful of people who present a problem for Hiawatha. Inform them of the rules of the Festival and how they have infringed upon them. Allow them to first remedy any problem situation by accepting responsibility for breaking the rules of the Festival and taking steps to correct the problem ie. Allow them to purchase a wristband, move their campsite to a non-quiet area, or respect others around them by ceasing to be a disturbance. If these measures do not work, stay with them as contact other Security volunteers or Police for support, as needed. Avoid any physical confrontation except to protect yourself or others- contact the proper authorities immediately for assistance in dangerous situations.

Infringements of Festival rules are grounds for removal of the offender from the Festival site with no refund of ticket price. Use good judgement- if refunding the ticket price will maintain good public relations and solve the problem, contact the Funds Monitor to arrange a refund.

Have your Security workers fill-out an Incident Report for warnings given, complaints, or emergencies encountered.

Keep these reports as documentation of recurring problems to justify corrective action.

WRISTBANDS

Allow gatecrashers to purchase a wristband. If they refuse, stay with them as you escort them off the Festival site.

CAMPGROUND RULES

Quiet Camping- Allow noisy campers 1 warning to quiet down. If a second incidence of noise occurs, gather the support of other Security personnel to escort the offenders to a different campsite or off the Festival grounds. Contact the Marquette City Police for assistance if necessary.

Musician’s Camping- If people complain of live music playing in the Musician’s (non-quiet) camping area, inform them that live music is permitted in this area. Offer them free earplugs or to assist them to move to a Quiet Camping area.

Teen Camping- Locate the responsible guardian of any disruptive teen. If no guardian is present, stay with the teen(s) as you offer to contact their parent/guardian by phone to come and pick them up. If a teen does not identify a responsible guardian, contact the Marquette City Police to escort the teen(s) off the Festival site or to contact the responsible guardian.

PETS

Inform any pet owner of area kennels and assist them in contacting the kennel to arrange boarding for their pet. If the pet owner refuses to remove the pet, contact the Marquette City Police to escort the offender off the Festival site.

PARKING PASSES

Notify the Main Stage MC of any illegally parked vehicles, providing the make, model, color, plate #, and location of the vehicle. If an illegally parked car is not removed by the owner after 2 hours and numerous stage announcements, contact the towing company to tow the vehicle.
