PART 1 GENERAL

RELATED DOCUMENTS

Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division1 Specification sections, apply to work of this section.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

ASME Compliance: Construct and install boiler accessories in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. Install boiler accessories in accordance with ASME B31.1, Power Piping, or ASME B31.9, Building Services Piping, as applicable.

SUBMITTALS

General: Submittals shall demonstrate compliance with technical requirements by reference to each subsection of this specification. Where a submitted item does not comply fully with each and every requirement of the Specifications, the submittal shall clearly indicate such deviations. Identification requirements for non-complying features of items are very specific. See Section 230210 for exact requirements.

Manufacturer's Data: Submit manufacturer's technical product data, including rated capacities of selected model clearly indicated, weights (shipping, installed, and operating where applicable), furnished specialties and accessories, and installation and startup instructions.

PART 2 PRODUCT

BOILER VALVES

General: Provide factoryfabricated boiler valves recommended by manufacturer for use in steam service indicated. Provide boiler valves of types and pressure ratings indicated for each service, or if not indicated, provide proper selection as determined by Installer to comply with installation requirements. Provide sizes as indicated, with connections which properly mate with pipe, tube, and equipment connections.

Stop and Check Valves: Construct body of cast iron, ASTM A 126, Grade B, pressure rated for 250 PSI at 450 deg. F steam. Provide OS&Y construction, straight or angle pattern with flanged ends, and renewable bronze disc and seat ring.

YType Blowdown Valves (100 psig or less): Construct body of bronze, ASTM B 62, pressure rated for 150 PSI steam. Provide Ytype globe construction, bronze seat ring, renewable composition disc, screwin bonnet, and threaded ends.

YType Blowdown Valves (Greater than 100 psig): Construct body of bronze, ASTM B 62, pressure rated for 300 PSI steam. Provide Ytype globe construction, bronze seat ring, renewable composition disc, screwin bonnet, threaded ends.

SAFETY AND RELIEF VALVES

Provide steam safety valves as indicated, of size and capacity as selected by Installer for proper relieving capacity, constructed in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, as follows:

Safety Valves (1/2" - 2"): Construct housing of cast bronze, disc and nozzle of forged copper alloy, lap seats to optical flatness. Set valve to relieve at 10 PSI above operating pressure.

Safety Valves (2-1/2"IPS and Larger): Construct of cast iron, with all bronze/brass trim, and fully enclosed spring. Set valve to relieve at 10 PSI above operating pressure.

Drip Pan Elbows: Provide drip pan elbows on steam safety valves required to discharge to outdoors. Construct of cast iron, with bottom drain and pan drain connections.

Exhaust Heads: Provide exhaust heads on exhaust steam lines, constructed of cast iron, and consisting of helicocentrifugal chamber and drain.

BLOWDOWN SEPARATOR

Provide blowdown separator as indicated, of size and capacity to match blowdown of a single boiler at one time. Construct of steel with ASME code for 250 psig design and connections to match piping types. Interior of separator shall include stainless steel striking plate. Furnish drain after cooler section with cold water connection, temperature well and valve bulb well. Provide solenoid valve to automatically control flow of cold water by responding to temperature changes sensed at thermostatic valve bulb. Floor mount unit with angle iron stand.

STEAM FLASH TANK

Tank shall be factory-fabricated of carbon steel and be ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Sec. VIII, U-stamped vessel rated for 150 psig maximum vessel pressure. Tank shall be fabricated with integral floor stand, with anchor points, in accordance with Section 019913.

Flash tank shall have one (1) flanged tangential inlet, one (1) flanged vent, one (1) bottom drain, one ½” pressure gauge connection and one (1) 1-1/2” safety relief valve connection. Tank size and connection sizes shall be as indicated on the Drawings.

PART 3 EXECUTION

INSTALLATION

Install boiler accessories as indicated, in accordance with manufacturer's installation instructions, and with recognized industry practices, to ensure that boiler accessories comply with requirements and serve intended purposes. Comply with requirements of state and local boiler codes, applicable portions of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, and applicable portions of ASME B31.1 or ASME B31.9.

Coordinate with other work as necessary to interface installation of boiler accessories with other components of heat generation system.

BOILER VALVES

Install stopandcheck Valves as indicated on top of boiler steam nozzles.

Install Ytype blowdown valves as indicated on blowdown piping. Connect discharge to blowdown separator.

SAFETY AND RELIEF VALVES

Install steam safety valves as indicated on top of boilers. Pipe discharge to floor drain for lowpressure service. Pipe discharge to outdoors for highpressure service, pipe drain outlets of drip pan elbow to floor drain. Pipe drain outlets of exhaust heads full size to floor drain or sewer.

BLOWDOWN SEPARATOR

Install blowdown separator as indicated to collect boiler blowdown drains.

Pipe vent through roof and pipe drain into floor hub provided by plumbing contractor. I

Install after-cooler section and pipe as indicated to control exit temperature of blowdown.

Carefully size stand height to accommodate after cooler and boiler drain piping such that boilers may be gravity drained.

STEAM FLASH TANK

Install steam flash tank as indicated. Pipe vent through roof and pipe drain into floor hub drain.

FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

Flush and clean boiler accessories upon completion of installation, and in accordance with manufacturer's installation instructions.

Hydrostatically test, if required, assembled boiler accessories and piping in accordance with applicable sections of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.

OWNER INSTRUCTION AND TRAINING

Provide Owner instruction and training in accordance with Section 230240.
