World Languages

  • Shmoop is an online subscription test prep service used for Advanced Placement (AP) courses. VBCPS students use Shmoop to prepare for the world language AP courses and exams offered in the school division.

  • Thisislanguage.com is a subscription service for authentic listening comprehension tasks, currently available for French, German, and Spanish, with gamified exercises available for Latin. VBCPS thematic unit curriculum for Levels I-III of French, German, and Spanish reference aligned videos and accompanying exercises. Alignment charts are also provided for AP French, German, and Spanish.

  • VBCPS world language teachers are encouraged to participate in the field test of an online version of LinguaFolio developed by the Center for Applied Second Language Studies (CASLS) at the University of Oregon.
  • Students select Can-Do statements and upload evidence that demonstrates their communicative skill in a world language.
  • LinguaFolio promotes autonomous learning as students set goals and reflect upon their own linguistic performances and cultural experiences. VDOE is unveiling a Virginia version aligned with the SOL’s in August.
