Scurfield Drive Fire – New Information

Last month I advised that I would provide more information on the families involved in the fire on August 27thif there was a need. Well, there is an important need and we are leaning on the generosity of Scenic Acres residents to meet it! One of the homeowners provides caregiver services for two special needs adults who lived in the house. These two individuals’ possessions were destroyed in the fire and they did not have tenant insurance to cover their losses. The homeowner and two special needs adults are living in temporary furnished accommodations until the Scenic Acres house can be rebuilt. SACA representatives are setting up a bank account with Servus Credit Union in Bowness so our residents can donate funds to purchase bedroom furniture, clothes and stuffed animals. One of the individuals also enjoys needle point and we are planning to purchase kits for her as well. This bank account will be called the “Scenic Fire Relief Fund" and will be open only 90 days so let’s help them out and give them a great Christmas present! The funds collected will be used to purchase gift cards at major retail outlets; Pennington’s, TanJay for clothes, The Brick for furniture, Toys R Us for stuffed animals. Please contact the office for further instructions regarding how to donate.

Remembrance Day

I had the privilege of representing many Palmer nieces and nephews in honouring my uncle at the Flags of Remembrance ceremony in Windsor ON sponsored by the Veterans Voices of Canada. Uncle Frank served in the Italian campaign in both Sicily and mainland Italy under very harsh conditions until D-day and then continued to serve in Holland and Germany. The rest of his life, he exemplified that generous and giving spirit with his time and money becoming an uncle to many cousins but also to a great number of non-family members including the next generation right up to his passing 3.5 years ago at 92 years of age. In our busy lives, let’s take a few moments on November 11th to reflect and consider those who fought for our freedom, continue to preserve our freedoms andhelp others around the world who don’t have those freedoms. Why not consider how you can emulate this type of selfless contribution to the world around you?
