Dear Parents

Welcome back to January 2016. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and I would like to wish all parents, staff and children a very happy New Year – may it be a brilliant one for us all. The Spring Term is now upon us and I will be sending home a list of dates for the new term next week. I know that the January start can be a tough one after the festivities of December so we will ease the children back into school as smoothly as we possibly can. I look forward to seeing you all very soon.

All staff would like to say a huge thank you for all the lovely gifts they received for Christmas from the children. We are always overwhelmed by your generosity and very thankful for your kind thoughts.

Christmas Play Timings - Feedback

Thank you very much to those of you who returned the letter regarding feedback about the Christmas Play timings for next year. If you still have it lurking about and would like have your say please send it in with your child and I can add it to the pile I already have. I really want to be able to act on the majority feedback for next year in order to improve things and take on board your opinions. So don’t delay and have your say!

Clubs Starting Next Week

·  Gymnastics Club for years 3 and 4 only – Monday 3:20pm-4:20pm – starting on Monday 11th January.

·  Dance Club for any year group – Tuesday 3:15pm-4:15pm – starting Tuesday 12th January.

·  Italian Club for any year group – Thursday 3:15pm-4:15pm – starting Thursday 7th January.

Art Club for any year group – Tuesday 3:15pm-4:30pm

(Letters will be coming out for Art Club this week.)

Your child should have brought home a slip before Christmas to say if they had a place on the Gymnastics, Dance or Italian Clubs which will start on the dates listed above. Art Club letters will be sent home this week. Please return them to Miss Cooper so that she can organise names for this term.

Italian Club – Miss Emrick

I have been inundated with reply slips for the Spring Term Italian Club and while I would love to have all of you in the lessons, it would unfortunately be too big. With this in mind, I have picked the first 20 reply slips to attend Italian Club during the Spring Term and I will put the remainder on the list for Summer. I have sent a letter to those who will be attending during this term so if you haven't received a letter, it means that you are on the list for the summer. Apologies again and many thanks for the interest in Italian Club.

TALK HOMEWORK & ‘WOW’ WORDS

Each week we send a Talk Homework activity and ‘Wow’ Words home and we would be very grateful for your support.

We are trying to help all our children develop excellent speaking and listening skills, which in turn will help them with their writing. “If a child can’t say a sentence then they can’t write it either!”

Please spend at least 10 minutes talking with your child about the questions below;

The floods in areas of the UK over the Christmas period have been terrible to see. Families have had to leave their homes, abandon Christmas plans and then return to see their beloved homes ruined by flood waters. If you had to rescue 3 possessions from your home what would they be and why? Ask your family members what their possessions would be – are they different to yours or similar?

(valued, treasured, prized, favourite, dear, dearest, beloved, darling, adored, loved, special, esteemed, worth its weight in gold, revered, venerated, hallowed)

In Big Talk, we use ‘WOW’ Words to improve our vocabulary and ‘big up’ our sentences to make them more interesting!

Our ‘WOW’ Word this week is;

cherished

Please encourage your child to use this word,

in the right context, as much as possible.

·  The ‘Talk Homework’ and ‘WOW’ words will be set every Monday in the newsletter; children will then share their ‘Talk’ with their class on a Friday afternoon.

·  We will encourage the children to use the WOW word throughout the week.

Thank you for your support in helping your child.

Please do not hesitate to come into school and speak to me or another member of staff if you have any questions or concerns. Have a great week!

Mrs K Connelly.
