News

Valencia & CERN:

·  CERN have made 3 RTE pads, stored in dry environment – need to put strip on circumference.

·  Peter will visit Valencia to advise on vacuum bagging.

·  If Valencia need more Al-Kapton, should be plenty at CERN (costs $1600 for 230’).

Rails:

·  Long Rails: 3 finished; 1 needs epoxy.

·  Short Rails: 4 ready for machining – W/S have DXF.

·  Some concern about edge seal adding to width – John says not a problem.

Heater Pads:

·  Marko has modified designs following our comments; Janez Lanmgus has started working on the designs.

LMT Cooling:

·  Kapton Tape for edges and guillotine for cutting have arrived.

·  Currently testing LMT Clips with Mock-up: at most 21 LMTs of £230 mm each

·  Issues for Clips: Pipe separation, reduce height of strain relief (below 13 mm) –to avoid clash with OTE.

·  Pipe Clips: Jason will modify design according to our suggestions, height of Pipe will be ~1 mm above Cylinder (use temp spacers), Clips will be fixed to CF next to LMT polycarbonate Clips.

Drawings:

·  Steve should have checked ITE drawings this week.

Membranes:

·  Conclude Al-Kapton is not essential in membrane (40% saving due to low emissivity, with 15 W opposite TRT and 12 W if no cold SCT Barrel) and removes G&S problems and danger of Membrane touching Modules.

·  Rear: function: G&S and gas-tight; does need solder joint; behind Rear Foam Pad.

·  Front: function: G&S and gas-tight; needs Cu-Kapton plus another Kapton layer for sealing; no solder joint; near Modules on Disc 1 so must not deflect. Test just Cu-Kapton. Spec on Membrane: 1 mm thickness, less than 2 mm bow.

Orders:

·  LMT Clips – order production when design finalised.

·  5mm Airex – one sheet delivered to Valencia.

·  CF Flange Order went out 26 Aug; expect back at end-Sep.

·  Ultem Inserts ordered, expect back 1st week of Oct. Increase order to 110.

·  Bits & Bobs (Inserts for ITE, Rails, Rear Support) ordered; expect back 21 Oct.

Peter finishes 14 Oct!

Do we need Derek’s help ?? Peter & Martin need to think and communicate with Derek.

Priorities (in order of importance)

Peter

1.  LMT Cooling:

·  Launch production (alochroming) of LMT Foils – 2 days.

·  Test pre-production Clips, tweak design (with new info) and launch order – 2 days.

2.  Interact with John to get Membrane testing MDF and Templates designed & manufactured – 2 days.
Check we have sufficient plane Kapton for Front Membrane (gas seal).

3.  Go to Valencia to advise on vacuum bagging.

4.  Mod LMT Cooling doc to indicate fixation of Pipes (1 mm above Sup Cyl).

5.  Write up thermal calculations, including temp in Tape stack in STFT.

John

1.  Design Templates for Membrane tests.

2.  Complete design of Stiffener (due to Pipes); get Martin to check; order suitable Airex.

3.  Follow purchases etc:

a.  CF Flange – due 30 Sep

b.  Ultem Inserts – due 7 Oct

c.  Bits & Bobs – due 21 Oct

4.  Complete mods associated with G&S Foils, esp for Membranes.

5.  Think through G&S design & assembly and document for Jason & Ned. Includes:

·  connection to OTE in presence of Heaters

·  connection to Al-Kapton surfaces.

6.  Prepare a list for Jason of various concerns, including holes in STFT.

7.  Release ITE drawings, following Steve Carr’s approval – by 7 Oct.

8.  Tidy up – drawings to CDD (help Ian with Disc drawings).

Martin

1.  Check STFT Stiffener drawings.

2.  Rail production.

3.  Help with production of LMT Cooling Foils.

4.  Help with production of Membranes.

5.  Set up test for LMT Cooling.

6.  Make STFT Stiffeners.

Stephen

1.  Obtain Pipe separations from Liverpool & Nikhef.

2.  Sort out manufacture of Heater Pads.

3.  Order Transport/Storage Box for Membranes.

4.  Understand (from Ozy?) loss of R12 space to Alma.

5.  Consider shipping ITE#2 to CERN.

Richard

1.  Check Heater Pad designs and resistances as they come from Dejan.

Jason

1.  Worry about cooling of LMTs as they emerge from STFT.

2.  Produce a Kapton sheet to wrap End-cap (under Rails) at CERN.

3.  Thermistors on LMT Cooling/Tapes ?

Valencia & CERN

1.  Return Foam (probably) when finished.
