As President of the International Federation of Surveyors, FIG, I extend a warm invitation to surveyors from all over the world to attend the FIG Working Week 2004 to be held in Athens, Greece in May, 2004. The FIG Working Week 2004 will be held in the same year as the Olympic Games which adds a special flavour to the programme. In the FIG Council we are fully convinced that the local organising committee and the two Greek member associations – the Technical Chamber of Greece and the Hellenic Association of Rural and Surveying Engineers (HARSE) – will do their utmost to secure a highly professional technical conference and to make the technical visits and social programme unforgettable – and not to be missed. About Greece – its culture, nature and hospitality of the people – I don’t need to use any words.
For FIG the meetings in Athens will be interesting because this will be the mid-term conference for the German administration which means that two new Vice Presidents will be elected as well as the new Commission chairs for 2006-2010 who will act as chairs elect 2005-06.
The Working Week cannot become a success without an active and continuous support from the member associations, commissions and individuals. The work in FIG cannot only be done by email – personal contacts and social networking are at least as important. They make the difference. I look forward to meeting you all in Athens in May 2004.
Holger Magel,
FIG President

Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Hellenic Association of Rural and Surveying Engineers (HARSE)I am very pleased and honored to invite you to participate in the FIG WW 2004 scheduled to be held in Athens, Greece in May 2004. I am sure you will have the pleasure to be informed about the big technical projects under development in our country and to exchange experience and knowledge in professional and educational issues with us.

Dear Colleagues and friends,
As President of the Technical Chamber of Greece, TCG, I extend a warm invitation to all surveying engineers world wide to participate to the FIG Working Week 2004 to be held in Athens, Greece, in May 2004.
Athens, the capital of Greece, is located in the southeastern part of Europe and claims to be the bridge between Europe, balcan Countries and Countries in transition, Asia and Africa, combining great history, culture and the Mediterranean beauty with the modern trends in technology.
During the meetings you will have the opportunity to share with each other experience and knowledge, but also you will experience at first hand the significant progress Greece has made to combine the "golden age" of Classical period with modern technological achievements.
The TCG together with the Hellenic Association of Rural and Surveying Engineers have worked hard and have planned technical and social programs to please all delegates.
On behalf of the local hosts I invite you to come to Athens, the most famous of all ancient Greek cities.
Constantinos Panagiotopoulos,
President of TCG

Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I am very pleased to invite you to FIG WW 2004, to be held in Athens, Greece, between 22 and 27 May 2004.
We could be adding value to the event as it takes place where the Olympic Games, democracy and great philosophical principles were born. Thus, FIG Working Week could also have a strong cultural meaning.
By introducing "the Olympic Spirit in Surveying" we want to promote the ideal of internationalization. We have worked hard and we will continue to make any possible effort to offer the opportunity to as many delegates from all countries to participate in this major event.
We have selected a modern Conference Center, at a convenient location close to the center of Athens so that despite the busy technical program you will be able to enjoy the best among the riches of the city.
In addition we plan to organize interesting technical tours, great archaeological sightseeing program and unforgettable pre and post conference excursions.
Besides, Athens has the privilege to be one the very few European capitals with a strong reference to the water so that you will be able to enjoy in various ways the clear water of the Saronic Gulf. Do not forget that "Greece is sun, Greece is fun".
The whole organizing committee will make the best for the success of this event. Do not miss the chance to join us in Athens, next year!
George Papavassilou,
President of the Organization of Urban Transportation fo Athens,
Chair of the Local Organizing Committee
