Mrs. Keogh

My name is Devan Keogh and I attended the College of Charleston. I graduated with a degree in Middle Grades Education, with concentrations in science and social studies. I am highly qualified to teach both subject areas, but science is definitely my favorite. This is my ninth year teaching at FOJO.

Science Notebooks and Binders:

Every student is required to have a marble composition book, which we have used to create our science notebook. In addition, students are also required to have a one-and-a-half inch three-ring binder. Everything done in class or at home is completed in the notebook or binder, So, they are the most important things students bring to class, along with their textbooks. Students should be bringing both home regularly to finish homework and review what we learned in class.

Grading Policy:

Homework: 10%Tests: 25%Classwork/Participation: 30%

Labs/Projects: 15%Quizzes: 20%

*I drop the lowest Classwork grade, but this isn’t calculated into a student’s average until the end of each nine weeks.

Year-at-a-Glance:

*Scientific Inquiry is embedded with all content standards throughout the school year.

First Nine Weeks: Force and Motion; Waves, Light, and Sound

Second Nine Weeks: Earth’s Systems and Resources

Third Nine Weeks: Earth’s History; Earth’s Place in the Universe

Fourth Nine Weeks: Earth’s Place in the Universe; Health

If you ever have questions about your child’s progress, please email me and I will be happy to send an electronic report for you at any time! Also, all parents have access to their child’s scores through Parent Portal. Please sign up with Mr. Westergaard if you haven’t done so already. Students also have access to their grades as well, and are encouraged to check grades regularly.

When your child is absent:

There are several places to locate any missed work:

  1. The “Make-Up Work” bin: this is located on the table near the bookshelf where students can find supplies and turn in work. Any time I hand something out in class I put extra copies for absent students here. Absent students are responsible for checking this bin.
  2. Google Classroom: I have just started a class learning how to use this program, so please be patient. I plan to share announcements and assignments regularly, but not daily.

My e-mail:

Feel free to contact me at any time. Please allow twenty-four hours for a response.
