Science Faculty Equity Fellowships

Doctoral level

The Faculty of Science invites applications for up to two Doctoral level Fellowships that are being made available to address the Faculty’s strategic objective of increasing the pool of Black African South Africans with science qualifications which position them to compete for academic positions.

Criteria and eligibility:

·  Academic excellence

·  Black African South African

·  Completed Masters degree

·  Identified supervisor and host department in the Faculty of Science, UCT

Conditions of award:

·  Successful applicants must register for full-time doctoral study in the Science Faculty, University of Cape Town;

·  Successful applicants must comply with the University’s policies, rules and procedures;

·  Successful applicants must enter into and adhere to a bi-lateral Memorandum of Understanding with his/ her pre-arranged supervisor outlining the work-plan for the research project and time frame for completion of the degree/research.

Value:

·  Doctoral Fellowships: R100,000 per annum for a maximum of three years, plus R20,000 per annum for two years towards research running expenses.

Fellowships will be awarded annually with renewal subject to the maximum tenure (see above) and satisfactory annual performance.

Completed and signed application form together with a CV and academic transcript should be submitted to the relevant Head of Department. Deadline: 31 January 2018.

HODs must rank applications and forward these to the Dean of Science, P D Hahn building, UCT.
