School Council Meeting

The School Council Chair, Ritesh Jhamb, welcomed all the attendees and asked everyone to introduce themselves.

1-Student Council Report

·  Pep rally to boost school sprit

·  Survey was sent to students grade 9-11 for the school mission, vision and value statement

·  Changes of the rules of the Student Council voting was sent home

2-Principal’s Report

·  Ms. Hobbins encouraged parents and students to participate your voice counts survey. There will be computers available the parent’s night for the parents to log on and do the survey at the school. The staff and the students will do in April as well. The purpose of this survey is to gather information for planning purposes.

·  The school’s enrollment for the grade 9 student’s will be reduced next year, but the enrollment is expected to increase September 2015 due to boundary changes.

·  Students are encouraged to choose their courses earlier to ensure course availabilities next year.

·  School start time was not allowed to change due to bussing issues.

·  Ching. Students in Youth Opportunities Through Community (YOTC) planned and run after school ice-skating program at Greenbriar Recreational Centre, helping students to learn team building and social skills.

·  Chinguacousy students participated Sears Drama Festival at Mayfield Secondary School in February receiving the Sprit of Sears Award as well as Ensemble Performance Award

·  Chinguacousy Mock Trial team were fortunate to go the Peel Mock trail, Chinguacousy students did not win, but were close.

·  Excited to welcome Ms, Dao Tran in September 2014 as Head of the Science Department

·  Day of Pink is April 9,2014

·  Almost 1/3 of the students got the honor roll in semester one and Ching Stars were celebrated

3-Robotics’ Presentation

·  A hand out was distributed about team 3560 who are student- led robotics team and become the world champion this year.

·  Designed and assembled Kraft Dinner Dominos

·  Achieved : 1 creative award, 1 innovative award, 1 tournament championship , 2 design awards, 2 energy awards and 3 tournament finalist awards,

A parent raised a communication concerns. Different methods of communicating students and parents were indicated by the Robotics team, such as announcements and one o one text message reminders.

·  Student Council will help Robotics in terms publicity, building network with other group, Syner Voice can be used to announcement and setting up a day to celebrate their achievement.

4-Vex World Championship Cost:

·  Travel $4800

·  Travel Insurance $400

·  Hotel $2100

·  Food $1300

·  Robot’s shipping $600

Total: $9200

Estimated cost per student is approximately $1500. ChingBotics have obtained sponsorship and have fundraised independently. However, they need more funds and are asking the School Council $5000.00 of non board spending money. Ms. Hobbins has asked our Superintendent, Jan Courtin to support ChingBotics. Ms. Courtin will be able to support this project in the future years.

There was two separate motions of $5000.00 each, VEX and FRC for the School Council to approve. Both of motions were approved unanimously.

5-Grant for the School Council

The School Council Chair, Ritesh Jhamb suggested spending the $500.00 PRO Grant to assemble Welcome Package for the coming grade students.
