South Windsor’s Junior Women’s club Third Annual Scarecrow Contest is open to all ages, individuals, families, clubs, groups & businesses.
Registration and set up will be
October 20th 8:30-9:30 am or
Friday October 19th 5:30-6:30 pm
at Charles N. Enes Community Center 150 Nevers Road,South Windsor, CT
Ribbons will be presented be at 1:30 on October 20th during SWJWC Fall Family Fest
Participants are encouraged to email so we will be expecting you at registration and set up
Individual, family or group category*$15.00 registration:
1. Traditional – Most Likely to Scare a Crow. Typical Farm & Garden Scarecrows made from cast-off clothing, burlap, gunny sacks, jeans, overalls, straw hats, aprons, bonnets, corn shocks, raffia, straw, etc.
2. Any Other – Whimsical, Fairytale, Humorous, Fantasy, Celebrity, etc. Design a scarecrow depicting your favorite character, sport, animal or fantasy figure and let your imagination run wild. Use of bright colors or unique materials is encouraged. Note: If you use papier-mâché, be sure it is sealed to protect it from the elements.
3. Youth – This division is open to children under age 14. An adult may assist younger children, but the majority of the work must be completed by a child (children). Groups of children may collaborate and enter together as one entry. Scarecrows may be either Traditional, represent your youth group or any other in design (see above).
*Please attach a permanent weatherproof sign on the lower part of your scarecrow stand with the name of your entry
Business/advertizing category$50.00 registration
4. Business – Traditional or Any Other (see above). Businesses/political partiesmay display an advertisement sign with their name and logo not to exceed 11 x 17 inches. Businesses can preregister by mailing form and fee to SWJWCP.O. Box 507 South Windsor, CT 06074 to obtain prime scarecrow spots!

*All Scarecrows will remain on display from Saturday, October 20, 2012 to Sunday, October 27, 2012. Since the scarecrows will be subject to severe weather the construction should be durable and all ornamentation secured to the scarecrow and scene. Each entry space will be approx. 6 feet by 6 feet
* One entry can have more than one scarecrow if they are included in a scene.
* The scarecrow contest exhibit area is family friendly, If it is deemed inappropriate it will be removed
*scarecrows need to be removed on Sunday October 27, 2012 or will become the property of SWJWC
*all scarecrows need to be set up by 10:00 am on October 20, 2012
*bring complete registration and all set up material on Friday October 19,2012 or Saturday, October 20, 2012during set up and you will be assigned a space
*Minimum height of 4 feet. Max height of 8 feet.
