School Advisory Council Minutes

April 7, 2014

Attendees: Shannon Bass, Dr. Rhonda Boone, Julie Cook, Cindy Christidis, Candi Lange , Suzanne Matthews, Stacy Pallitto, Bonnie Smith, Norma Theobald, Lori Vroman, Marlene West, Nancy Wilkins, Hoobett Castaneda, Patricia Duncan, Shelley Allen, and Nicole Sikora.

A.  Welcome

Call to Order and Welcome at 5:35 pm by Lori Vroman, substituting for Denice Volzone.

B.  Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes

Motion made by Norma Theobald/seconded by Patricia Duncan to accept minutes from the March meeting with changes.

Passed with consensus vote.

C.  Finance/Budget Report

Discretionary Spending balance $ 213.81

Internal Fundraising balance $2,823.11

Total $3,036.92

The budget was reported by Julie Cook. No change in balance.

D. Principal’s Report

1.  Dr. Boone reported that an email was received today, April 7th regarding the student calendar options for the school year 2014-15. Option 1 gave students 1 week off at Thanksgiving. Option 2 gave students 3 days off at Thanksgiving. Both calendars had a school start date of August 18th. Lake County school stakeholders will be allowed to vote online for the calendar of their choice until April 14th. The calendar will go before the school board for final approval on April 28th.

2.  The Florida Department of Education has adopted the new AIR test to replace the FCAT. The new AIR test will incorporate at least 70% written response on the reading portion. This approach will require extra teacher training.

3.  New elements have been added to the Florida Standards to address the concerns with the Common Core Standards. New training will take place for teachers to meet the updated requirements.

4.  Students will decorate their Mother’s Day cakes from Publix on May 8th. Approximately 300 orders were placed.

5.  Chili’s Treadway night will be April 8th.

6.  Spring pictures will be on April 10th.

7.  FCAT testing will be from April 14-17th.

8.  Family Academic Night/K-2 Science Night will be held on May 6th from 6-7 p.m.

9.  The 3-5th grade Science Fair will be held on May 13th from 6-7 p.m.

10.  On May 30th the 5th grade will have their end-of-year Picnic Day.

11.  The 5th grade will have their promotion ceremony at 9 a.m. in the cafeteria on June 5th.

E.  Old Business

There was no old business to report.

A discussion topic was brought to the attention of the SAC by SAC member Candi Lange. The topic was in reference to a swim party at the YMCA, to be hosted by a private person on the last day of school.

F.  Next Meeting-

The next SAC meeting will be held on May 12th at 5:30 p.m. in the front office conference

room. It will be the last meeting for this school year.

G.  Meeting adjourned at 6:05 p.m.
