JOEL HALEY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

2017 Scholarship Guidelines

1.  Applicant must be a Boone County 4-H or FFA member.

2.  Applicant must submit two (2) letters of recommendation. Letters should be included with the application.

3.  Applicant must not have previously received a full ($1,000) Joel Haley Scholarship.

4.  Applicant must be a high school senior or a full-time college, university, or trade student and have a GPA of 2.5/4.0 or better. Applicant must have been a full-time student (high school, or college/university/ trade school) the previous year and not have reached their 23rd birthday by January 1 of the current year. Emphasis will be given to students enrolled in an agricultural program.

5.  Applicant must submit, with the application, the most recent available high school or college/university/ trade school transcript for proof of grade point average and enrollment.

6.  Applicant must demonstrate leadership potential through extracurricular activities and work experience.

7.  Preference may be given to students who plan to/are attending Missouri colleges, universities, or trade schools. Preference will also be given to those who have a need for financial assistance.

8.  Joel Haley Scholarship Fund judges (including Melissa Quast and Julie Haley) will review applications and all applicants will be notified regarding the judges’ decision by mail or e-mail on or before July 1, 2017. Scholarship recipients will be honored during the Boone County Fair.

9.  Unless otherwise noted, all Joel Haley Scholarship Fund scholarships will be $1,000.

10.  Scholarships will be payable during the calendar year 2017. To redeem scholarship, recipients must provide the Joel Haley Scholarship Fund Committee with proof of college/university/trade school enrollment. Funds for scholarships will be sent directly to the recipient’s institutions. In the event a recipient does not use all of the funding, the unused portion shall be returned to The Joel Haley Scholarship Fund.

11.  Applications must be returned to The Joel Haley Scholarship Fund, c/o David Grant, 9545 Carter School Rd., Columbia, MO 65201. Applications must be postmarked by June 1, 2017.

·  Please use the original form as mailed or provided by e-mail from David Grant (e-mail address: ).

·  Applications may be typed or handwritten. Illegible applications will not be accepted.

·  Use only the space provided. No additional pages should be added, except where specified (i.e. essay, transcript). Resumes and/or extra pages will not be forwarded to the judges.

·  Please mail application packet in an appropriate sized flat envelope with appropriate postage.

·  It is not necessary to staple, specially bind application materials or use special paper, color ink or graphics. Applications will be photocopied and provided to the selection committee in black and white.

·  Applications will be scored using the following point system: Communication-20 points; Leadership-20 points; Community Involvement-15 points; Agricultural Involvement-15 points; Scholastic/Academic-10 points; Financial Need-10 points; and General Impression-10 points.
