Hello CMES students!
I hope your semester is off to a great start! I wanted to introduce myself and let you know I am the new ‘Eric’! Eric was so nice to give you to me and I will be your new career counselor. I just joined University of Utah Career Services a month ago and previously I was a corporate recruiter for a large company in Idaho. I am so excited to help you with your career goals, resume & cover letter reviews, and/or interview practice—please feel free to sign up for an appointment with me through UCareerPath!
Like we mentioned last month, our office is excited to announce a shiny, new database that will better help you reach your career goals! We have transitioned to UCareerPath, and we are excited about the tools and resources available to you:
  • Schedule appointments online – easily find an appointment with your own dedicated Career Counselor depending on your availability.
  • Virtual Mock Interviews – practice your interviewing skills online and share with mentors to ask for feedback.
  • Document Library - find valuable handouts to help you with resumes, interviewing, LinkedIn, and your job search.
  • NACELink Network – your new tool to search for internship and full-time positions worldwide.
  • CareerShift – your exclusive resource for searching for jobs nationwide as well as conducting employer research and networking.
  • GoinGlobal – the best tool to prep you for searching for jobs internationally as well as to identify employers who issue H1-B visas.
Now, for the most important event, the Spring 2015 Career Fair!

Some of the Companies that are attending and you should absolutely visit:
  • Schlumberger
  • Washakie Renewable Energy
  • Crescent Point Energy
  • BioFire Diagnostics
  • Ken Garner Engineering
…..and so many more!!
Here are some Career Fair “Pro Tips”:
Dress up – This is your FIRST impression with the company of your choice, we recommend business professional (suit & tie, blouse & skirt/slacks), also make sure to wear your best smile!
Copies of Resume – Bring copies of your resume on clean white paper (don’t worry about that fancy-pants resume paper).
Plan your Time – Strategize early by getting on UCareerPath and learning about the companies that are attending. Make sure you come early during the fair to get quality face time with recruiters. Don’t wait till the last two hours, recruiters tend to hit a wall the last two hours of the fair and you might not get the best time with them.
Research the Companies - Especially the companies you are interested in. Nothing swoons a recruiter more than when you KNOW about the company.
Alright you guys, I am so excited to get to know you and help you get on the right track to your dream career! I will see you at the career fair!
All the Best,
Maddi Tapp
