PRACTICE MANAGER - Overall

The Practice

/ A hardworking, innovative, well-organised, enthusiastic and happy team working from purpose built premises. The practice aim is to provide the best health care possible for all its patients in a calm and pleasant atmosphere. Staff are involved in the running of the practice with care being taken to address their needs, morale and training.

Location

/ Abbottswood Medical Centre, Defford Road, Pershore, Worcs

Tenure

/ A permanent post.
Hours of Work / 18 per week – exact distribution to be decided, but will include Friday
Grade / Abbottswood Nursing Assistant Grade – currently £10.09 per hour

Sick leave

/ 8 weeks paid sick leave per annum
Holiday entitlement / 28 days pro rata, 29 days after 5 years service, 33 days after 10 years service plus 8 Statutory Bank Holidays, if they fall on a day you would normally work.
Pension / This post is pensionable under the NHS superannuation Scheme
Accountable / To Nurse Team leader for day to day operations
Practice Manager is managerially responsible for whole AMC Team

  • Members of the Primary Health Care Team

Teamwork / Although work is primarily with the Nurse Team, the Practice place great emphasis on a team approach. Integration, communication and rapport with the whole Primary Health Care Team is a prime factor.
Confidentiality / The post involves access to information concerning the medical affairs of patients and/or staff and the practice business and will require signature of the practice’s confidentiality policy
OVERALL OBJECTIVES

To be a part of a friendly, flexible, enthusiastic Nurse team providing a professional, efficient and pleasant service on behalf of and with other members of the Primary Health Care Team working from Abbottswood Medical Centre.

JOB SUMMARY

MAIN DUTIES

You are required to work to the best of your ability and to use your best endeavours to promote, develop and expand the business of the practice and its interests generally. You agree to act at all times with consideration for the needs of the practice patients and your colleagues and comply with practice procedures, standards and policies in a pleasant and professional manner.

This Job Description is not meant to be an exhaustive list of duties but to give a guide to the objectives and responsibilities of the post.

The post holder will be required to work flexibly and may be required to work different hours or to undertake other duties in support of the Practice.

  • Perform Phlebotomy in accordance with practice protocols, including finger prick testing for In House INR Service – record results on electronic patient record
  • Ensure correct storage and transportation of Phlebotomy samples – according to Practice and local Laboratory Guidelines
  • Perform ECGs in accordance with Practice Protocols, including recording on electronic patient record
  • Carry out urinalysis and record results on electronic patient record
  • Undertake New Patient Checks utilising SOPHIE Protocol on electronic patient record
  • Carry out Annual and Review Checks for patients with certain Chronic Disease, utilising SOPHIE Protocol
  • Restock relevant Nurse Room with consumables at end of shift
  • Perform Basic Spirometry Checks – according to Practice Policy
  • Assist GP to undertake minor surgery ; particularly preparation of room in accordance with infection control guidelines, ensure dignity and comfort of patient, ensure room is cleaned between and after procedures according to infection control guidelines.
  • Assist GPs to undertake IUCD Insertion, Removal and Checking; particularly preparation of room in accordance with infection control guidelines, ensure dignity and comfort of patient, ensure room is cleaned after procedure in accordance with infection control guidelines. Send IUCD Equipment to CSSU
  • Assist with Implanon insertion
  • Undertake Influenza Vaccinations via Patient Specific Direction
  • Restock relevant Nurse Room with consumables at end of shift

Screening

Undertake opportunistic screening e.g. height, weight, BP, BMI, smoking status

ADDITIONAL DUTIES (to be added to relevant staff job description)

Training to obtain recognised Certificate of Competency will be offered as and when available over the first 2 years of employment

  • Ear Syringing
  • Smoking Cessation Course
  • Basic Spirometry
  • Influenza Vaccination

BASIC HOUSEKEEPING

Take part in stock ordering, restocking and cleaning of clinical areas etc

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

Maintain competency in anaphylaxis and resuscitation techniques

INFECTION CONTROL

Adopt sound infection control measures in own practice and generally – in accordance with practice and local guidelines

CHILD AND VULNERABLE ADULT PROTECTION

Be aware of practice and local Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection Procedures

Understand basic legal issues around child and vulnerable adult abuse

Recognise signs and symptoms of categories of child and vulnerable adult abuse

AUDIT

Take part in audit as required, particularly within an area of special interest or expertise

GOVERNANCE

  • Ensure that nursing practice is in keeping with NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Standards and reflects Practice Policies and Procedures
  • Utilise Evidence Based to ensure efficient cost effective service
  • Be fully conversant with all AMC Policies

RISK MANAGEMENT

All staff have a responsibility to report all clinical and non-clinical accidents or incidents promptly according to AMC Critical Event Policy. Staff also have a duty to co-operate with any investigation undertaken.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Employees must be aware of the responsibilities placed on them under the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and Manual handling Operating regulations (1992) and comply with AMC Health & Safety Policy. This ensures that the agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe environment for employees, patients and visitors to AMC

EDUCATION & DEVELOPMENT

You will be expected to:

  • Develop as the role progresses
  • Take every opportunity to maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence
  • Undertake appropriate training as necessary
  • Attend mandatory training in CPR and Fire Evacuation
  • Take part in other in house training and clinical governance activities
  • Take part in personal objective setting including a personal development plan at annual review
