Energetic and organized person required to support a Southwark resident to care for her children and her home.

I suffer from severe chronic pelvic girdle pain (PPG) and severe osteoarthritis which means that I have limited mobility and I am often housebound. I need support to care for my young children and my home. I also require support to follow an intensive rehabilitation programme to enable me to recover strength and independence. The role will involve personal care, housework, and shared and sole care of two young children.

The ideal candidate must have experience for at least 2 years working with adults and children, Level 2 or 3 (Adults) Diploma in Health and Social Care and level 3 (Children’s Care Learning and Development) is preferred but not essential. Driving license is desirable.

Shifts available: Monday to Friday: 12 hours a day / Saturday- Sunday 3.75 hours each day

Weekly hours: 67.5 (To be split between 2 people)

Rate of pay: £9.15 per hour

Proof of entitlement to work in the UK will be required at interview.

Reporting to employer:Disabled woman living in Southwark

Location: Home care in the Southwark area.

Nature of the job role:

To assist with a variety of tasks to support me in my role as a mother, and to live an independent personal and social life.To support me in all areas of personal, domestic and social need, both at home and in the community.

The Personal Assistant/Nanny must be reliable and able to work flexible hours and must respect my privacy; understanding the need for confidentiality in all areas of work.

The Personal Assistant/Nanny will work under my direction, is accountable to me and should always ask what my needs are, listening and acting upon my requests.

Main Duties:

Personal duties:

To provide personal care or support me with tasks relating to personal care to maintain my health and wellbeing

  • Provide support with personal care
  • Provide support to me with heat treatment throughout the day
  • Provide support to me with taking medication, and applying supports/pain relief/heat treatment and TENS machine
  • To keep the home environment safe and tidy to prevent trip hazards.

Domestic duties:

To carry out general domestic duties to support the smooth running of family life, keeping our home safe and secure

  • General housework, including cleaning and dusting of rooms, furniture and fitments and hovering
  • Planning, preparation and cooking of family and baby mealsand clearing up
  • Changing of bed linen
  • Family laundry and ironing
  • Shopping and/or assistance with shopping
  • Keeping the home tidy and clean throughout the dayto keep the home environment safe and secure
  • Support with end of day clear up

Childcare duties

To support me in all aspects of childcare duties

  • Respect and follow the children’s routines
  • Provide sole charge of the children at certain times of the day and during medical appointments
  • Enable the children to attend age-appropriate playgroups and activities during the day
  • Prepare and supervise children’s meals (including baby meals)
  • Sterilise bottles and provide formula feed throughout the day

Social Duties:

To enable me to undertake any chosen activity, inside or outside my home by carrying out any requests which I may reasonably make.

  • Assistance with getting to and taking part in social activities
  • Assistance with getting in and out of the car
  • Support both myself and the children to attend activities
  • To attend medical appointments with me, and provide childcare while I am seen.
  • To provide support to attend hydrotherapy in the pool
  • To take children to age appropriate activities

These duties may vary from day to day.

Any other reasonable duties that may be necessary.

Personal assistant responsibilities:

  • Respect the privacy of the person you are working for and maintain a professional approach at all times, being careful to treat your working relationship as confidential, including the assistance provided
  • Understand and be mindful of the person’s right to dignity, respect and independence
  • Arrive at the agreed time ready to work
  • Give notice if you are going to be more than ten minutes late
  • Communicate and discuss any problems that arise as soon as possible
  • Respect the person’s possessions and equipment and only use the telephone, television, radio etc. with the person’s prior consent.

Hours of work:

67.5 hours per week/ job share‘hours to be mutually agreed’

Rate of Pay:

£9.15 per hour

Monday-Friday: 12 hours per day

Saturday and Sunday: 3.75 hours each day

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

The ideal candidate must have experience of at least 2 years’ working with adults and children.

Preferred:

The ideal candidate must have experience for at least 2 years working with adults and children, Level 2 or 3 (Adults) Diploma in Health and Social Care or level 3 Children’s Care Learning and Development is preferred but not essential. Further training can be provided after appointment, if required.

Driving licence desirable
