Dear Parishioners

Annual Collection – Saint Charles Seminary

The annual collection for Saint Charles Seminary takes place during November. Please note that the Seminary Appeal is a mail appeal and an envelope was mailed to you. Please mail your contribution to the seminary; there will not be a second collection.

Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary has been preparing men for the priesthood for over one hundred and seventy years. Our Seminary also offers the Church Ministry program for the laity. The Diaconate Program is also at the Seminary. Many Catholic school teachers, CCD catechists, Religious Sisters and Priests also attend classes at the Seminary. The seminary is also the site for Vocation Discernment Programs, retreats, days of recollection and faith formation programs.

Remembering Our Deceased Loved Ones

Throughout the month of November, we remember in prayer our deceased loved ones. A Memorial shrine has been set up on the altar under the statue of our Blessed Mother. The Book of the Dead lists the names of those parishioners from the last ten years who have died and whose funeral liturgies were in our Church. On the envelopes are the names submitted to us by parishioners. Please remember all in your prayers and good works. Through the mercy of God, may each and every one of our deceased loved ones be graced with new life in heaven.

Block Collection

I am most grateful to all who have contributed so generously to the annual Block Collection. The Block collection is a major source of revenue in the annual operating budget of our Parish.

Thanksgiving Outreach

Our Saint Vincent de Paul Society will coordinate our charitable Thanksgiving outreach. Both our School and CCD students will collect canned food.

Parishioners who wish to donate canned goods and non-perishable food items are asked to bring them to Church next weekend, our Loaves and Fishes Sunday.

Money is also needed so that grocery gift certificates can be purchased. If you are willing and able to do so, please put the money in an envelope (marked “St. Vincent de Paul”) and place it in the collection basket.

Present State of the Economy adversely affecting some of our Parishioners

Unemployment, lack of work, lay offs have caused some of our families to experience a loss of income.

Our charitable outreach to these families at Thanksgiving and Christmas (food, gifts, and gift cards) will allow them to take the money that they are not spending for these things and use it for utility bills, mortgage payments, etc.

If you know of parishioners in this situation who we can help, please let me or one of the priests or Deacon Whartenby know.

People who are willing to donate to assist these families are asked to see “Thanksgiving Outreach.”

Poor Man’s Supper

&

Thanksgiving Mass

Sometimes it is hard to imagine that, in our country – a land of plenty – there could be so much want and hunger. On Tuesday, November 26th, we will have our annual Poor Man’s Supper at 5:30 PM in the Parish Hall followed by a Thanksgiving Mass in Church at 7:00 PM. Our guest speaker is Sister Kimberly Kessler, CSR. Sister Kessler is a Life Skills and Wellness Advocate from the Drueding Center, a Holy Redeemer Lifecare Community. We will serve supper from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. All are invited. The goal of our Poor Man’s Supper is two-fold: first, to draw attention to the plight of those who hunger and second, in some small way alleviate that hunger in our area. You are asked not to eat at home before coming to the supper. The meal will be meager (soup and bread) but it will be sufficient. If there is a “want” for more eating, our first goal is achieved. This sharp contrast to the plenty of Thanksgiving Day will cause us to remember those who have so little. Non-perishable foods that have been collected will be given to the needy, thus fulfilling our second goal.

Concert Before Christmas

Save the Date!

Before the holiday rush sets in, mark your calendar now for our annual parish “Concert Before Christmas” on Saturday, December 21st at 7:30 PM. The program will incorporate Advent & Christmas music, along with several instrumentalists.

This concert is always well attended. Plan now to join us for a memorable evening of music in preparation for the birth of our Lord!

Vincentian Message…

In today’s Gospel, we find that God is a God of the living, and this is indeed the core of our hope. Jesus has risen and is with us; therefore, at no time should we be without hope for the future.

When you give the furniture, household items and clothing you no longer use to the Society of St. Vincent DePaul, you give hope to your neighbors who have nothing.

LOAVES & FISHES SUNDAY

November 17, 2013

The St. Vincent DePaul Society extends its thanks to all our parishioners for their continued support and concern for those less fortunate. Suggested items needed for our parish pantry this month include: breakfast cereals, pancake mix & syrup, coffee and tea, canned fruit and juices, canned vegetables and meats, tuna fish, canned soups, peanut butter & jelly, rice, pasta and sauce, bath soap and dish detergents, soap for washing machines, flour, sugar, toilet paper, paper towels, and baby food. May God bless you always for your kindness and generosity
