Progress Reports
Progress Reports go home on March 17 in the Thursday Folders. The students who are working at the below basic level , need to give more effort, or have problems with turning in work will receive one. Even if your child does not receive one, he/she needs to continue working hard in all areas of the curriculum at school and at home.
Daily math instruction
During each new lesson, we as a class go over how to do each type of problem, which the students should be writing in their math journal. Then the students work on their Reteach/Skills Practice page. As the problems are completed I stamp it if it is done correctly. If not, then I can see exactly where that student needs help. Students should be bringing the Reteach/Skills sheet as well as their math journal home to help them with the Homework/Problem Solving sheet.s. Please look over your child’s work. When the work is turned in the next day, all pages need to be stapled together.
IXL.com
Your child should be working on this website 5-10 minutes as homework Mon.-Thurs
To make Blue Ribbon, they have practiced at least 20 minutes.

My website now has access to the Language Arts Practice Book. I copied from Mrs. Alderman’s website.

PTA Calendar/Reading
It is important that your child read 20-30 minutes a night (out loud.) Please verify this on their PTA Calendar which is attached to the John Swett Papelito each month. Reading enhances all aspect of the curriculum. Therefore it is vital that they read every night.
March Project
The students received a project last week. They are to figure a possible career for themselves and to interview someone actually in that career. This project is due April 13th. Work on it a little bit each night. DO NOT wait until the last minute. There is an oral presentation required as well. You can find the requirement sheet on my website.
Science Newspapers
When highlighting, students are to highlight the important information only, (either words or phrases) NOT complete sentences. Please go over their work or work with your student during this assignment.

Reading: Please read
When students read out loud each night, and they come across a word they don’t know, it is important that they not only sound it out, but to also use context clues to help find the meaning of the word. Please make sure your child is working on this aspect of comprehension.
We finished The Forgotten Door by Alexander Key.
Writing
Students are continuing to learn how to write complete sentences (simple, compound or complex sentences), then put them into paragraphs with transitional sentences, and finally into a well rounded essay. Have your student write as much as they can using proper paragraph format. It will payoff in the long run.
