The Church assists the parents by offering instruction on the meaning, importance, and responsibilities of the sacrament of Baptism. A Pre-Jordan Baptismal Program for helping parents prepare for the spiritual birth of their child is held on the fourth Sunday of the month in the Spirituality Center following the Noon Mass.

THANKSGIVING PROCLAMATION OF 1863

“It has seemed to me fit and proper

that the gifts of God

should be solemnly, reverently, and gratefully acknowledged

with one heart and one voice by the whole American people.

I do, therefore, invite my fellow citizens . . .

to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November

as a day of Thanksgiving and praise

to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens.”

- Abraham Lincoln -

Dear Parishioners,

Harvest Imagery

Throughout late summer and early fall, the harvesting of fruits, vegetables, and crops has taken place. Farmers take great delight in the harvest. Planting and raising crops take a great deal of time and skill. But it also relies on the weather. Many farmers pray for favorable weather and a bountiful crop so that the world can continue to enjoy the fruits of the earth.

Thanksgiving provides us with the opportunity to give thanks to God not only for the harvest of the field but also for the harvest of the human heart and spirit. Reliance on the grace of God provides the favorable condition for the human heart and spirit to produce a bountiful harvest.

During your thanksgiving prayer, take some time to identify the abilities and attributes that God’s creative power has brought to life within you and the fruit which you have produced. Because of the person you have become, what fruit has been produced by the way you live your life in faith, hope, and love?

Has someone died at peace with themselves, God and others because of your hospice care? Is the neighborhood less violent, more peaceful and safe because of your civic involvement? Has your family grown or remained close because of your presence? Has a child developed, learned, or grown as a result of being nurtured by you? Has someone returned to the sacraments, to Church, to a life of faith because of your intercession or example? Is someone being graced with sobriety and recovery because of your intervention? Has a broken heart been mended, a conflict resolved, a ruptured relationship healed because of you?

People are capable of doing so much good. God has made this possible. Let us also thank God for this fruitful harvest produced by human hearts and spirits. What abundance! What a cornucopia!

The cornucopia is a symbol for abundance and for Thanksgiving. Some of the first settlers who came to this country thought of America with its land and trees and fruits and flowers as a giant cornucopia. We know that God is our real cornucopia - the one from whom we receive many good things. God’s goodness never stops.

I am most grateful to all whose presence, involvement, and service to Saint Anselm Parish has produced so much good. You continue to have a positive and life giving influence here. So many enjoy the fruit of love, joy, peace, faith, community, and life which your presence, involvement and service produce.

Thanksgiving Mass Schedule

Tuesday evening, November 20th, 7:00 PM

Thanksgiving Day 9:00 AM

(Church will open at 8:15 AM for visit & prayer.)

Poor Man’s Supper – Tuesday, November 20th - 5:30 PM

On Tuesday, November 20th, we will hold our annual Poor Man’s Supper from 5:30 to 6:30 PM in the Parish Hall. A Thanksgiving Mass will follow the supper at 7:00 PM. All are invited.

The goal of our Poor Man’s Supper is two-fold: first, to draw attention to the plight of those who hunger and second, in some small way alleviate that hunger in our area. You are asked not to eat at home before coming to the supper. The meal will be meager (soup and bread), but it will be sufficient. If there is a “want” for more eating, our first goal is achieved. This sharp contrast to the plenty of Thanksgiving Day will cause us to remember those who have so little. Non-perishable foods that have been collected will be given to the needy, thus fulfilling our second goal.

RCIA Rite of Welcome and Acceptance

The celebration of the Rite of Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens and the Rite of Welcoming for the baptized preparing for reception into full communion of the Catholic Church takes place this weekend at the 10:00 AM Mass. A warm and cordial welcome is extended to:

our Catechumens– Joel Katz, Carie Mae Markowski, Samantha Rudden, Latisha Rudden who are preparing for

Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist;

our Candidate – Amy Adams who is preparing for her reception into the Catholic Church, Reconciliation,

Eucharist, and Confirmation

and our parishioners Amy Sipps, Cole Redman and John Gillen who are preparing to celebrate their reception of

the sacraments – Reconciliation, Eucharist, Confirmation

Please remember them in prayer.

Thank you – Christmas Bazaar

Our Christmas Bazaar was very nice. I wish to thank the Ladies of Saint Anselm and the many people who made the Bazaar as nice as it was. The squeals and delights of the children on Friday and the friendly interaction of adults, family, friends and parishioners on Friday evening and Saturday testify to the wonderful spirit that the Saint Anselm Bazaar brings to life.

Special thanks to the volunteers who came to set up the hall for the Ladies.

2013 Mass Intention Book

Mass Intentions for 2013 can be arranged at the Parish Center. Announced and Unannounced Masses: The difference between an announced and an unannounced Mass is this: because the date and time of an announced Mass is scheduled and published, you know when the Mass Intention is being offered. An unannounced Mass Intention is offered but you do not know the date and time. Unannounced Masses are sent to priests and parishes where there is availability. The offering for an Announced Mass and an Unannounced Mass is ten dollars.

2nd Collection – Hurricane Relief

Next weekend – November 24/25

Archbishop Chaput has invited all 257 parishes in the Archdiocese to take part in an optional second collection on Saturday, November 24th & Sunday, November 25th for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. All contributed funds will be provided to Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, which will use the donated resources to assist Sandy storm victims locally and in other dioceses. Please continue to pray for all those affected by Hurricane Sandy. Thank you in advance for your charity and good will.

Block Collection

I am most grateful to all who have contributed so generously to the annual Block Collection. The Block collection is a major source of revenue in the annual operating budget of our Parish.

Happy Thanksgiving,

Father Dunleavy #2-016
