COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Provides training in advanced business accounting procedures in QuickBooks using Windows environment. It will Include inventory setup, employee and payroll setup, sales tax setup, estimates, time tracking, pass through expenses, and adjustment and year-end procedures.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Describe and define how to set up inventory items and process inventory transactions.
2. Describe and define employee setup and payroll items.
3. Manage payroll transactions.
4. Describe and define estimates and progress invoicing.
5. Set up items to manage pass through expenses.
6. Describe and define estimates and time tracking.
7. Describe and define how to set up and manage sales tax.
8. Describe and define adjustments and year-end procedures.

EVALUATION: Your final grade in this course will be based on the following:

Assignments 280ptsA = 90+ %

Weekly Quizzes 70 ptsB = 80 – 89%

Final Exam 50 ptsC = 70 – 79%

Total 400 ptsD = 60 – 69%

F = Less than 60%

ASSIGNMENTS:

  1. Weekly Assignments cover sheet will be given.
  2. Each student will be assigned unique grade id #. Remember you grade id # and enter in all submitted materials.
  3. Staple the assignment cover sheet for each assignment. Make sure you enter name, Grade id #.
  4. You will be allowed to resubmit your homework ONCE for each assignment in case you made mistakes. Attach corrected workonly at the end of the original assignment and mark RESUBMIT on the original cover sheet.

QUIZZES: Weekly quizzes will be given on dates shown in the schedule.

COURSE COMPLETION: The last day for a drop with a refund is Friday, 10/21/2005. The CR/NC option is Monday, 10/31/2005. The last day to drop this class without a "W" is Monday, 10/31/2005. The last day to drop this class with a "W" is Monday, 11/21/2005. These options are handled through Admissions and Records and are the responsibility of the student. Instructor may drop students who miss the first class or any two-class sessions from the course.

Using the InformationManagementCenter (IMC) Computers

  1. When to use the lab

Any time it is open and you have bumping rights at your allocated time.

  1. Disks

Use two 3.5 “floppy disks for backup and one flash drive (USB).

  1. Virus Checkingof disk at entry and exit

Check the disk for viruses at the virus check machine (located at IMC Lab counter).

  1. Logging in Procedure
  • Certain computers have been set aside for QuickBooks course, check at the front desk before starting.
  • If the computer is off, turn on the computer and the monitor.
  • The boot process will start and then a window will appear with instructions to login.
  • Press control + Alt and Delete buttons to start the login process.
  • At the login window type the following

Username: Your saddleback email address (first part only- lowercase)

Ex: If email address: then the Username: jsmith

Password: Your student Id #

NOTE: Each student has been allocated a personal H: drive (5 MB) on the network. In the lab, use the H: drive and before leaving, backup your file on the floppy.

  1. To start program:

Double click the shortcut on the desktop.

  1. To use data files

Copy the files from the class web site to your disk before using it.

  1. To print your work

Use either dot matrix Panasonic (connected to the machine) or the laser printer (imc205a or imc205b). Check your default printer in the print dialog box. You will need to pay for printing on the laser printers.

  1. The answer key for the assignments

It will be available in the Lab. Check with the person on duty at the front desk.
