All overseas students willing to enter Saint-Petersburg State University of Technology and Design are offered the preparatory course, which serves to prepare an applicantfor taking university degree programme. Russian language training is the essential part of the preparatory course.

SUTD offers you a wide range of programmes of learning Russian as a foreign language responding to your level of Russian and according to your aims and interests. All courses of Russian as a foreign language during preparatory course include all aspects: phonetics, grammar, vocabulary, writing, speaking and listening. We will teach you to write literately, speak correctly and comprehend Russian speech. You will acquire communication skills in various situations, be able to understand your interlocutor easily and maintain conversation on any topic that interests you.

Basic Russian Course

Intensive Russian Courses

Russian Grammar Course

Basic Course in Russian as a foreign language is timed from 60 to 360 academic hours. Classes are held 2-3 times a week one-to-one or in group.
The program is divided into three stages:
1) Beginner
2) preintermediate
3) Intermediate

The length of each stage is 60-120 academic hours. With help from the Basic Course one can prepare for state tests in Russian as a foreign language.

Beginner stage is for those who have never learnt Russian. You will learn to read and write in Russian, comprehend Russian speech, keep up the conversation and hold a business discussion using simple Russian sentences. At Beginner stage you will acquire Russian at survival level (A-1) and prepare for tests of Elementary level of Russian State Test System (ТЭУ).

At Intermediate Stage you will considerably enlarge your vocabulary, learn basic Russian grammar and be able to talk in details on topics that interest you. At Intermediate stage you will acquire Russian at pre-threshold level (A-2) and prepare for tests of Intermediate level of the Russian State Test System (ТБУ) as well.

Advanced stage is for those who have learnt Russian before, know Russian grammar and have essential vocabulary required for communicating. We will help you revise and organise grammar, substantially enlarge your vocabulary, improve your business and everyday communication skills. At Advanced stage you will acquire Russian at A-1 level and prepare for tests of First level of Russian State Test System (ТРКИ - 1).

Intensive Course in Russian as a foreign language is between 30 to 90 academic hours. Classes are held 2-4 times a week one-to-one or in group. The length of the course is from 1-3 months.

You can choose:

Light Intensive Course - 30 academic hours, 1 month

Regular Intensive Course - 60 academic hours, 2 months

Intensified Intensive Course - 90 academic hours, 3 months

Russian Grammar Course will help you organise and improve your Russian grammar and spelling in a short time.

Training for state test in Russian as a foreign language

Each level provides you with certain opportunities:

- Elementary level А-1 (ТЭУ) implies Russian at beginner’s level;

- Basic level А-2 (ТБУ) means knowledge of Russian at Intermediate level; it is required to get Russian citizenship;

- First certification level В-1 (ТРКИ-1) - implies Russian at threshold level, it is required to enter higher educational establishment in Russian Federation;

- Second certification level В-2 (ТРКИ-2) - means knowledge of Russian at advanced level, it is required to get a degree in science;

- Third certification level С-1 (ТРКИ -3) - is required to get a degree in liberal arts;

- Fourth certification level (ТРКИ - 4) - enables you to teach Russian as a Foreign Language.

Letter of invitation, visa and accommodation

For issuing a letter of invitation an applicant should take the course of the preparatory training in SUTD with the periodnot less than 3 months and pay all the tuition fees. After receiving a letter of invitation, a student visa should be obtained. University applicants taking preparatory course can be provided with a place for living in students' campus.

Pay your attention that:
• Application for studying and scanned passport copy should be sent no later than 21 days prior to arrival by e-mail:
• Prior to receive a letter of invitation it is necessary to conclude a contract on training and pay all the tuition fees. The registration period of the letter of invitation takes from 1-2 months.
• After arrival at St.Petersburg foreign citizen must come within 1 day, except holidays and weekends, to department of registration and visa regulation on 18 Bolshaya Morskaya Str., room 429 and to present visa and migration card for migration control.
