Rules & Regulations

1)  The Court and Ball

a)  Games will be played on the court marked at the venue. The court will be demonstrated before the first game.

b)  Regulation size 4 futsal balls.

2)  The Number of Players

a)  Teams may have a maximum of 10 players per team; 5 players are on the court at one time, 4 court players and 1 goalkeeper.

b)  There are unlimited “flying” substitutions. Players can re-enter the game from their own defensive half without notifying the referee. A substitute cannot enter the court until the player coming off has left the court.

c)  The referee must be notified if the goalkeeper is changed.

3)  The Player’s Equipment

a)  All players within a team must wear the same colour playing shirt, except for the goal keeper who must either wear a different coloured shirt or a bib.

b)  All players must wear non-marking footwear.

c)  All players must be wearing shin pads

4)  The Duration of the Match

a)  Game time will be communicated through draw.

5)  The Start and Restart of Play

a)  From a kick off, the ball must be played forward. A goal cannot be scored directly from a kick off.

b)  The opposing team must be outside of the centre circle of the court.

6)  The Ball in and Out of Play

a)  When the ball goes out over the sideline, it is then placed on the sideline, from a stationary position, the ball is kicked into the court to another player. All opposing players must be at least 3 metres from the ball.

b)  All kick-ins (including corners and free kicks) must be completed within 4 seconds. The 4 seconds begins at the referee’s discretion.

c)  The opposing team must be at least 3ms away from the ball for any restart of play.

d)  For a ball to be out of play or a goal scored; all of the ball must be over the line.

e)  A goal cannot be scored directly from a kick-in unless it touches another player.

7)  Free Kicks

a)  Players can score from direct free kicks, but not from indirect free kicks.

b)  Players have 4 seconds to take a free kick.

c)  A free kick can be taken once the referee has blown their whistle.

d)  All opposing players must be 3m from the ball.

8)  Fouls and Misconduct

a)  Sliding and playing on the ground is permitted when not endangering a player.

b)  Goalkeepers are not allowed to pick up a back pass from any of their team mates.

c)  There is NO offside.

9)  The Penalty Kick

a)  A penalty kick is awarded if a team commits a direct free kick inside the penalty area.

b)  The penalty taker must be identified.

c)  All players must be 3m away from the ball, and behind the line of the ball.

10)  Goal Keepers

a)  Goalkeepers are not allowed to pick up a back pass from any of their team mates.

b)  Goalkeepers can kick, throw or roll the ball to distribute from general play but can only throw or roll to restart play.

c)  Once the keeper has played the ball they can not receive the ball in the defensive half again until the ball has changed possession.(THIS RULE DOES NOT APPLY FOR U9 LEAGUES)

11)  The Referee

a)  Referees have the right to warn, ask to leave or eject from the stadium, any player or spectator whom they feel is bringing the game into disrepute.

b)  The Referee’s decision is final.

12)  Competition

a)  Teams will receive 3 points for a victory and 1 point for a draw. The finals process will depend on the format of the competition
