Strategic Issue / District Goals and Measures / Key StrategiesSchool Turnaround /
- Identify six schools and six school leaders and district support personnel to participate in the UVA School Specialist Turnaround Program.
- Attend UVA Turnaround training and implement.
- Analyze longitudinal school data to identify Turnaround Schools.
- Select District and School level leaders to participate.
- Attend training in Spring and Summer 2016.
Curriculum Alignment /
- Analyze all Common Core (ELA, Math), New Mexico (Social Studies), and Next Gen (Science) standards and determine aligned learning targets by grade level.
- All teachers will understand the vertical alignment of the ELA and Math CCSS.
- Create aligned quarterly interim assessments for all grade levels for ELA and Mathematics.
- Create standards-based guides for instruction in ELA, Mathematics Science and Social Studies for each grade level K-12. Solicit feedback from classroom teachers, provide professional development and implement.
- Provide professional development to teachers.
- Design and implement interim quarterly assessments for ELA, Mathematics Science and Social Studies for each grade level 3-12.
Recruiting and Retaining Teachers /
- 100% of RISD’s teaching positions will be filled with licensed teachers by October 1st of each academic school year.
- RISD will retain 90% of licensed, highly qualified teachers, with the exception of those eligible for retirement, by October 1st of each academic school year.
- Active teacher recruitment within and outside of RISD.
- Career Ladder – grow our own teachers.
- Teachers will be acknowledged and celebrated by the local newspaper, at board meetings, in buildings, and at school related events.
- Gather and evaluate baseline data to determine why teachers are leaving RISD by creating and implementing an exit interview process.
Student Attendance /
- RISD attendance will be 97% by the end of each nine weeks during the 2016-2017 school year and will be maintained annually.
- Each school will reduce verified and unverified absences by 1% each year as measured by the district attendance monitoring program.
- Each school will reduce unverified absences by 1% each year as measured by District attendance monitoring program.
- Recognition for perfect attendance.
- District will employ two additional truancy officers.
- District will hire a TOSA to service attendance issues at elementary schools.
Alternative Setting – A Continuum of Settings /
- RISD Board Policy 5130, “Student Rights and Responsibilities,” will be reviewed and updated, as measured by task completion.
- Each school will adopt and fully implement a school-wide student management system, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), by August 2020 as measured by school participation.
- Create alternative settings for students referred to the Hearing Authority by August 2020.
- The RISD Superintendent and School Board will determine a schedule to reach this goal. The RISD Superintendent may appoint a committee to collaborate with the Hearing Authority for definitions.
- Schools will begin training staff in August 2016.
- Pilot an alternative setting for middle school in 2016-2017.
Communication and District Website /
- Assess communication with the aim for continuous improvement.
- Improve the design and accessibility of the Website.
- Assess communication gaps and needs internally and externally and address those needs.
- Identify new website software and redesign district website.
