Dear Friends of Rosary Hill,

Our daily life provides us with countless experiences that help keep things in perspective. We visit a hospital or a nursing home and see people enduring great physical suffering or disabilities or draining pains of loneliness, and suddenly our discomfort with the flu or a cold doesn’t seem so monumental. We view news reports about famine afflicting people all over the world and consequently the tasteless dinner in the restaurant is not catastrophic. We heard of whole nations suffering under repressive dictatorships, and the need to obey a restricted speed limit on a highway does not fry our nerves.

People with fame and wealth die and are buried. Power, social positions, posturing are all reduced to a box of ashes. Citing this is not aimed to make us morbid but to prompt us to reflect. And in this season of the year, all Christians gather in their churches to have Lenten ashes imposed on their heads, because ashes provide us with a perspective about what counts and what doesn’t in life. Ashes also remind us that our time is limited and that we should take advantage of the time we have left and opportunities we are given to live our lives wisely, productively, and with our final destiny in view.

The season of Lent is just around the corner. Traditionally it is a season of mortification and self-denial. But in order to make this season truly beneficial and even enjoyable we must not deny ourselves something good, but rather something bad – something that prevents us from being the best we can be, something that is putting our spiritual growth on hold. We are invited to say NO to what is bad and embrace with a resounding YES every opportunity to do good; in other words, to be like Christ. This is the only way to really enjoy true freedom and human greatness.

You, Dear Friends, are those spiritually wise Christians, busy with good works, generous in giving of your best to others, and consequently to God. The constant support you bless us with is the most apparent proof of it. This gives us reasons to praise you, to give thanks to God for you, and to invite you again to our annual Fund Raiser Dinner, which will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2014 from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Orland Chateau in Orland Park. IL. We look forward to seeing you there, and to having an opportunity to thank you in a more personal way for your unfading friendship and truly Christian assistance you give us in our ministry of care.

May God bless you and reward you.Sister M. Natalie, OP

RESIDENT’S NEWS

The Resident’s Christmas/Pizza Party held on December 8th

Deck the Halls of Rosary Hill Home

With Sister Natalie and Sophie watching over the hall---soon the festivities would start for all. A visit from Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus would soon be expected---bearing gifts---no one would be neglected. All of the awaiting residents---would soon receive their Christmas Presents.

The choir of St Patricia would soon be there---with songs of Christmas, each near and dear. They sang on the first floor, and then the second---They sang on the third floor then back to the hall--- being sure they sang to all. The residents and guests were snug in their seats, when someone heard a reindeer say “Where’s the Eats?”

Everyone gave the choir a hand---and what do you know---here comes the Pizza Man. The residents are now patiently waiting for what was next---when Santa &Mrs. ---the Sisters---and all the rest---served the Pizza at its best. The end of a day---not at all---there was more fun to be had in this hall. The fun continued after the meal---when Santa’s Elf started the music for what would be a fun ordeal. Musical instruments were given to Santa and all---for that Merry Band of marchers would soon cover the hall. As they marched and played and also sang---you just knew this partywould end with a bang. The residents joined in on all the fun---and enjoyed the party---as if it were their very first one. Exhausted and Happy but never alone---for we all are friends of Rosary Hill Home.

"On December 23rd, the Friday Morning Bingo Volunteers provided the Rosary Hill Home residents with a Christmas Pizza Party with pizza from Durbins. Everyone enjoyed the delicious pizza which was accompanied with a fruit salad and sugar-free wafers for desert. With Christmas songs playing in the background, all the volunteers and residents had a great time with good food and good conversation. I'm sure we will do it again very soon."

Fromthedesk of our Chaplain

“The Apple of my Eye”

Our Blessed Mother calls all those who are completely consecrated to Her Immaculate Heart the “Apple of Her Eye.” When we are totally consecrated to Her Heart, She is able to pour out on us all the tenderness of Her Motherly love. We are the apple of Her eye because of the great love which we have for the Eucharistic Jesus. Our Blessed Mother wants us to announce to all, the Gospel of Jesus, in this age of the great apostasy. She wants us to spread the fragrance of purity and holiness, in these times of great perversion. Since she is the Mother of the Second Evangelization, She wishes us to be Her special instrument for the conversion of Men and women to Christ. She wants us to announce the closely approaching of Jesus in glory, who will lead humanity into the new times, when at last there will be seen new heavens and a new earth. Let us allow the Virgin Mary to make us “the Apple of Her Eve.”
