JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION:MANAGER OF MARKETING AND VISITOR SERVICES (full-time)

SALARY:US$55,000 – 65,000 (commensuratewithexperience)

EFFECTIVE DATE:APRIL 1, 2018

This is a full-time opportunity to provide marketing, communication and hospitality services (food and lodging) to the Roosevelt Campobello International Park (RCIP). The Park was founded in 1964 by joint legislation in Canada and the United States as the first and only International Park of its kind.This International Park, located in southwestern New Brunswick, is an international example of the friendship and co-operation of the two nations in creating a living memory in honour of President Franklin Roosevelt who, along with his family spent many summers on Campobello Island.The Roosevelt’s historic summer cottage, along with several other historic residences from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s have been preserved in the Park. The Park also includes 2,800 acres of natural areas with walking trails and miles of coastline to explore.

Reporting to the Superintendent, the Manager of Marketing and Visitor Services is a key member of the Senior Management Team. This position is responsible for theproposing, developing and implementing of marketing and communications initiatives on behalf of the Park. The Manager is also responsible for all food and conference services as well as supervising, managing, training, delegating, and creating an effective team atmosphere in the day to day operation of these services. This will include public outreach to the visiting public and to the agencies that support and fund the Park. The Manager will also provide planning, analytical, creative and implementation support for all forms of marketing and communications outreach including internet, electronic and print communications. The goal of all these activities is to raise the public’s awareness of Roosevelt Campobello International Park and increase general visitation and the use of the Park’s Conference and Food Services programs and facilities.

The Manager, participates with the Commission, the Superintendent and other management staff in charting the direction of the Park, assuring its accountability and its effective operation. A large percentage of the incumbent’s time will be spent on making and following up on contacts which could require travel.

This position is located on Campobello Island, New Brunswick and candidates applying for the job must live within commuting distance to the Park or be willing to move to within commuting distance to Campobello Island.

MAJOR DUTIES:

Marketing & Communications:

Liaising and building relationships with a range of organizations and individuals in the tourism and hospitality industry.

Performing tasks related to managing the content and accuracy of the RCIP website. This includes managing updates and maintaining and monitoring content and working closely with the management team to ensure the content promotes the Park’s objectives.

Developing advertising opportunities which can involve placing paid and public service advertisements and announcements in national, regional, local and specialist publications as well as on radio, television and other media.

Maintaining and building contacts with the media, travel writers and planners, group meeting facilitators, tour facilitators and organizers, regional corporate and educational meeting organizers and others.

Works closely with the Manager of Interpretation to develop marketing materials, ads and press for new exhibits and Park

Tracks and Maintains accurate attendance counting and reporting

Writing and distributing press releases.

Managing the production of marketing vehicles including printed materials, Park brochures, information bulletins and directories, rack cards, electronic newsletters, blogs, email campaigns, a Facebook and Twitter presence, Power Point presentations and similar tools – this can involve writing and proofreading copy and liaising with designers and printers.

Developing and managing marketing, mailing, media contacts and other databases including customer lists, entities listed above, lead lists and similar tools.

Contributing to, developing and evaluating long-term marketing plans and strategies.

Representing RCIP at trade shows, travel shows, group tour shows and other similar events.

Hospitality Services:

Oversees day to day functions of food services and conference lodging programs at the Park.

Works with the Manager of Operations to coordinate the needs of conference lodging and food service facilities.

Oversee and understand howPark menus are planned and priced, grocery supplies are ordered and efficiently used and how kitchen staff should be trained and organized.

Oversee and understand how lodging facilities are priced, domestic supplies and equipment are ordered and managed and housekeeping staff are managed.

Oversee and understand the process of preparing meals for everyday operations as well as for special events, conferences, Commission Meetings, banquets, etc. These events could host up to, but not be limited to, 200 people.

Be prepared to work flexible hours, days and some weekends.

The incumbent will oversee and work with the Head of the Conference Program and the Head of Food Services to plan meals, arrange to accept conference groups at the Park, monitor and control expenditures, maintain a budget, and schedule staff effectively.

Responsible for maintaining a financially sound food service program.

Ability to review menus and analyze recipes in order to determine labour and overhead costs, and assign prices for menu items.

Oversees work schedules, and production records, supervising and scheduling staff effectively.

Monitors budgets and payroll time sheets, and reviews financial transactions in order to ensure that expenditures are authorized and budgeted and all financial information is given to the Finance Manager in a timely manner.

Ensure compliance with applicable health and food safety practices, laws and regulations and with all applicable alcoholic beverage laws and regulations.

Ensure compliance with fire safety laws and regulations.

Oversee the scheduling of facilities or catering services for events such as banquets, receptions, Commission Meetings, or events scheduled by the Conference Manager.

Oversees day to day administrative tasks such as daily cash reconciliation, maintaining information files, reconciling bills that need to be sent to the Finance Manager and processing paperwork.

Develop and administer accurate procedures and records for proper control and management of money, food, labour, supplies and other costs in conjunction with the Finance Manager.

Assist with audits of food services and conference programs with the Finance Manager.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

Must be able to effectively communicate concerns to supervisor and bring issues to their attention as necessary.

Must possess knowledge of safety standard practices, and candidate must have time management skills.

Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word for creating and preparing reports.

Familiarity with Point of Sale (POS) and Square systems is desirable.

Knowledge of labour laws, liquor laws and health compliance regulations, customer satisfaction, and quality and budget control.

Have planning and scheduling skills as well as being able to do budget preparation and have control and record-keeping techniques.

Possess a valid driver’s license.

Possess all necessary immigration papers, permits and licenses.

Possess an understanding of conducting and applying market research and customer surveys.

Have experience and demonstrated skills in managing a modest staff.

Education, Training and Work Experience Requirements:

Education: Degree/BA in marketing/communications and/or hospitality/food services or equivalent experience.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of successfulexperience in a similar position preferably in the hospitality services industry.

Demonstrate a willingness to attend seminars, conferences and courses for the purpose of professional development.

Supervisory Skills:

As themanager of your department you willbe expected to manage within the overall goals and budgets set by the Commission.

This position reports directly to the Superintendent of the Park. Guidance is provided to determine priorities, approve work plans and assist in working through situations that have a bearing on the overall operations of the Park.

The incumbent is expected to plan, design, implement and manage theirdepartment with a minimum of direct supervision.

The incumbent is expected to prepare and present an annual budget for their Department
