POSITION:OPERATIONS COMMUNICATION SPECIALIST

REPORTS TO:Telecommunications Manager

LOCATION:GST BOCES Bush Campus Building #4

DESCRIPTION:Full-time position (1.0 FTE); 8 hours per day, 12 months per year, Competitive Civil Service Position

  • Support all operation aspects of the firewalls within the production environment to include regular monitoring, system upgrades, event/incident management and triage, VPN account management, and monitoring of security system logs.
  • Configure, monitor, and maintain telecommunications hardware and the network infrastructure.
  • Maintaining thorough documentation of network and applications, processes and procedures, including creating, maintaining and updating network drawings.
  • Install or assist in installation of hardware and peripheral components, operating systems, firmware, and applications.
  • Exhibit excellent people, communication, and self-management skills and display a desire to work in a team environment and with others.
  • Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot Cisco equipment in a LAN/WAN environment including enterprise firewall, wireless, routers and switches.
  • Other duties as assigned.

START DATE:Immediately

QUALIFICATIONS:This is a competitive Civil Service position. The selected candidate must possess this title or be among the top three of a current, binding Civil Service list for the title or if no binding Civil Service list be in the top three after taking the required Civil Service exam for the title.

Associates DegreeOR 60 hours in Computer Sciences (or related field) with experience in network infrastructure, security,hardware and application support, including the installation of telecommunications equipment and general LAN/WAN supportOR High School Diploma (or equivalent) and two (2) years of the above experience

  • Good Communication skills (written and interpersonal) required.
  • Strong understanding of Networking, Network Security design and troubleshooting background preferred.
  • Experience with Firewall administration, Routing and Switching Infrastructure, VPN, and Network Authentication.
  • Experience with VMWare, HyperV and backups,a plus.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends for planned maintenance and network outages
  • CCNA, Net+, or other network/security certifications preferred.
