Role title:VolunteerYouth Information Advice SupportWorker

Principal Function:

To assist in the day to day running of the drop-in, by offering information, advice & support.

Some volunteers will also offer counselling.

Duties:

  • To greet and make young people welcome and comfortable.
  • To undertake a session of face to face work at the No Limits Advice Centre and/or engaging in outreach work at a satellite base.
  • To work with young people and help them identify their needs, make informed choices about their lives and refer on where appropriate.
  • To provide appropriate and accurate information, advice and, for some individuals, to offer counselling.
  • To complete No Limits monitoring forms, referral forms, etc with young people to the standard required and to check them before going off duty.
  • To ensure that the Advice Centre is maintained so that it is a tidy and workable environment, for staff and young people.
  • To work alongside other relevant agencies at No Limits and as part of our outreach service.
  • To be willing to work as part of a team and be responsible to paid staff.
  • To work in an impartial and non-judgemental way.
  • To keep up to date with relevant new information provided by No Limits.
  • To read and abide by the organisation’s policies and guidelines, especially safeguarding.

Reporting to:A paid member of staff in charge.

Hours:By arrangement - A minimum of one session per week is preferred.

Training & Supervision:

  • Induction training.
  • Volunteer Handbook.
  • Ongoing regular training.
  • Bi-monthly general supervision.
  • All volunteers who are in counselling roles will, in accordance with the recommended good practice of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, be required to attend regular supervision sessions with a suitably qualified practitioner.

Dress Code:

Smart / casual.

A volunteer badge must be worn at all times.

Note:

  • No Limits operates a no smoking policy throughout all of its premises.
  • Volunteers must inform No Limits of any changes in personal circumstances that may impact on their volunteering e.g. criminal conviction, medication, etc and agree to a regular police check.
  • This agreement is in honour only and is not intended to be a legally binding contract of employment.
