Role Title:Supplier Quality Development Engineer

Function:Supply Chain Quality

Departmental profile

The Department aims to ensure that lowest overall cost of acquisition of direct and indirect spend for Crowcon, whilst ensuring component deliveries satisfy the needs of the business. This will be done using suppliers who match the specified requirements of Crowcon in terms of price, quality, delivery and service.

Departmental Competencies

The Supplier Quality Development Engineer is responsible for managing all supplier Quality aspects within the Supply Chain andleading in the development of Supplier Performance (Quality and Delivery) of supplied components within Crowcon’s manufacturing environment. In addition the Supplier Quality Development engineer is responsible for ensuring that the supply chain is fit for purpose and that it meets both external and internal requirements, including, product and company certifications, legal compliance and customer satisfaction.

This role is responsible for managing, recording and improving the quality of all products form the supply base.

Person Profile

Broad engineering background re: supplier quality in the area of electronics, moulding, mechanics and manufacturing.

Able to communicate at all levels within the business.

Able to gain support from others through persuasion.

Good reporting and communication skills.

Data driven.

Ability to work using initiative and make reasoned decisions, as well as an excellent team player.

An organised approach to work and ability to juggle competing priorities to tight deadlines

Education

Degree level qualification or equivalent (typically HND or higher)

Training & Experience

Working level experience of the following with minimum of 5years’ experience:

  • Experience of holding a similar role within an electro-mechanical manufacturing organisation
  • Good knowledge of Quality Control and Problem Solving techniques (Process FMEA / Control Plans / 8D problem solving / root cause analysis).
  • Supplier dispute resolution.
  • Supplier Production Part Approval Process & Supplier Incoming Sample Inspection Reporting
  • Lean tools & techniques
  • Microsoft suite
  • Project Management
  • Workgroup facilitation
  • Value stream management and VSM mapping techniques.
  • ISO 9001 Auditor
  • EFACS
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and certification working in a highly regulated industry

Main Objectives

  • Ensure the supply base operates full compliance with current policies and procedures in the areas of Quality and Product Certification, and where necessary drive through process improvements to meet changing business needs.
  • Lead the quality element ofsupplier quarterly business reviews for all A Class suppliers (QBR’s).
  • Carry out periodic reviews with suppliers to ensure that they satisfy the ongoing requirements of Crowcon, and that Crowcon is contractually protected from predictable problems
  • Deliver continuous improvement actions and run improvement workshops.
  • Use data analysis to drive continuous improvement and deliver savings to the business, via Suppliers
  • To facilitate and to ensure that all Supplier’s have the necessary control plans, required to support the business.
  • Establishing statistical confidence by identifying incoming inspection criteria,sample size and acceptable error rates
  • Ensure Root Cause Analysis and implementation of Corrective Actions for supplier related concerns are completed in a timely manner.
  • Act upon Product / process defect analysis in a proactive manner to mitigate potential defects/failures
  • Handling of both internal and customer quality issues
  • Development of training in order to build the quality awareness & culture throughout the supply chain
  • To interface with Research and Development, Manufacturing Engineering, and Operations to support New

Product Introduction activities

  • To lead the Vendor Quality Technician(s) to ensure that products and processes comply with the relevant requirements of all necessary quality standards and industry regulations
  • Monitor the Supply Base quality levels on an ongoing and proactive basis
  • Audit existing suppliers on a regular basis to ensure that they are conforming to industry standards and requirements.
  • Carry out initial suppliers audits for potential new suppliers.
