THE ENGAGEMENT AND INCOME GENERATION DIRECTORATE

The E & IG directorate was established in December 2012 following an organisational restructure which brought the Fundraising and Communications functions together to realise our ambitious plans for growth in income and engagement.

THE MAJOR PARTNERS TEAM

The team will be responsible for securing and developing high impact long term relationships with individual major supporters, companies & institutions (including statutory funding). They will have a strong focus on bringing in new relationships at scale across these areas and then supporting and stewarding the relationship to deliver the maximum, lifetime value from it. The team will continue to focus on delivering value and growth from exciting and new relationships that are philanthropic or commercial (or both) in nature. They will also be responsible for ensuring successful delivery of large scale “in aid of” activity including the relationship management of any committees, individual supporters and associations while also supporting cross-organisational cultivation and engagement events.

PURPOSE OF ROLE

The core focus of this role is to work across the organisation to identify and creatively package compelling funding propositions to take to market for major partners that will drive income and engagement at scale.

In addition you will need to ensure we are developing and delivering ‘first class’ proposals that take our propositions to market and secure long term funding.

You will also be required to ensure we have the tools and materials in order to engage new prospective audiences. This is a new role and you will be required to initiate and maintain relationships at a senior level across the charity in order to deliver your objectives.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Proposition Development

  • The core focus of this role is to work with RP&I, drive the development ofinspiring, detailed propositions that are both ambitious but tangible enough to entice new donors and partners. These packages should be relevant and engaging for high value donors and partners that inspire belief in our charitable aims and activate financial support.
  • A vital and urgent part of this role is to work closely with the Campaign Director, Head of Philanthropy and any necessary external agencies to drive this work forward to meet the campaign deadlines working closed with RP&I and helping them to understand the dependencies.
  • An on going focus for this role is to work with the Major Partners team and to support any campaign proposals to ensure the best propositions are put forward in that meet the requirements of specific proposals and partner needs to deliver the best possible outcome for Breakthrough. These could include packages that arebased around research and/or policy & information and in addition those that demonstrate the local impact of our work.
  • Working with the Fundraising Research Specialist, you will help match funding opportunities with potential funders and make proposals to the Head of Philanthropy on possible matches.

Proposal Development

  • Develop a ‘center of excellence’ to ensure that all external or generic proposals aimed at securing income from major partners are first class, relevant, compelling and engaging.
  • Identify case studies, quotes and other information that enhance the case for support to be used in documentation across the Major Partners team.
  • Work with colleagues to plan the key stages of the proposal process and project manage the coordination of all content to ensure it is to the required standard and that the timelines are met.
  • Continuously improve the proposal process, structure and format to take account of previous outcomes and ensure that our submissions always have the best possible chance of success.
  • Create structured and accessible templates that can be used by the Business Development and Philanthropy teams for generic proposals. Champion innovative techniques to keep our bids and proposals cutting edge and fit for the market.
  • Agreekey content that should be standard when articulating each of our propositions and help develop that content for specific proposals for use by the Major Partners team.
  • Create a knowledge centre at the heart of Breakthrough which includes: past proposals and bids; learnings from previous programmes of work; a library of case studies and supporter stories; current shopping lists and key fundraising statistics all of which can assist teams in planning activities and developing cases for support.
  • Work with the communications team to ensure Breakthrough’s brand guidelines are followed for all material and proposals and that the brand is not compromised.
  • Keep up to date on legal developments and advise partners about their legal and compliance obligations to ensure that any fundraising activities comply with the law and best practice and to safeguard Breakthrough’s position.
  • Identify and understand the requirements and intentions of major partners and use your skills to support emotive and relevant proposals. Support both the organisation, and more specifically Philanthropy and Business Development team, in developing bespoke proposals aimed at securing new gifts and partners for Breakthrough.

Business Development Tool Kit

  • Drive the communication of our work and impact to high-value audiences developing a ‘tool-kit’ of materials, including digital and video, and ensuring our presence on Breakthrough’s or external channels of communication that support the major partners team in securing new prospects. This should include showcasing our current portfolio of impressive partners as advocates for new prospects
  • Develop a ‘tool-kit’ for the Major Partners team to deliver original, compelling and dynamic literature and digital assets (including video) that can help cultivate prospects and secure new partners.
  • Work with RPI to help deliver training sessions for Major Partners team and E&IG to enable them to be ambassadors for our work with high value prospects

Relationships

  • Develop excellent relationships with RP&Ithat facilitate both rapid turn-around for propositions for reactive needs as well as building a programme of propositions for longer term requirements.
  • Build relationships with the senior leadership team in order to gain support and agreement for propositions and proposals.
  • Build strong relationships with the Philanthropy team to understand the needs and requirements of ongoing and new donor relationships.
  • Develop a close working relationship at a senior level with external agencies supporting the delivery of any campaigns to ensure a good understanding of requirements and timely delivery of information.

General

  • Be an ambassador for Breakthrough at events, supporting the delivery of Breakthrough’s vision at these events and ensure that Breakthrough’s profile and reputation are enhanced.
  • Develop and maintain accurate, up-to-date and organised records for all partners and prospects using Breakthrough’s database. Ensure all partner information is managed and stored in-line with Data Protection regulations.
  • Support and deliver other projects and tasks, in line with your skills and experience that might occur within E&IG and contribute to our overall organisational objectives above and beyond your role.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Salary range:£36000 - £42000 per annum

Term of appointment:Permanent

Hours of work:35 hours per week. You may also be required to attend events during non-work hours and weekends. We also operate a TOIL scheme.

Pension:Contributory group personal pension scheme

Annual Leave:25 days per year plus 3.5 days over the Christmas period in addition to bank and public holidays
