Project fellows needed to support health care and research in Zambia!

Now accepting applications for HIVCorps 2010-2011

______

Established in 1999, the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) is a Zambian organization affiliated with the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). CIDRZ’s work includes research, training, and service delivery in HIV/AIDS; maternal-child health; cervical cancer; and tuberculosis. CIDRZ has experienced phenomenal growth in recent years, garnering over $171 million in grant funding for our work in Zambia. Our faculty and collaborators are among the world’s leading thinkers on issues related to HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention programs in developing countries.

Now entering its 7th year, the CIDRZ HIVCorps initiative has trained 91 expatriate and Zambian fellows. The fellowship provides the opportunity to gain important field experience in areas such as (1) program implementation and management, (2) clinical trials, (3) community outreach and support, (4) clinical care quality improvement systems, (5) data management and outcomes analysis, (6) laboratory systems in the developing world, and (7) rural primary health care and health information systems.

The HIVCorps fellowship is targeted at medical, nursing or MPH students who are able to delay their studies for a year: recent graduates who wish to gain international experience; and college graduates (including those graduating from post-baccalaureate programs) with substantial skills or experience. Applicants with experience in project management, public health, community outreach, study coordination, data management, statistical analysis, IT, scientific writing, and laboratory work are particularly encouraged to apply. Previous international experience is highly regarded but not a requirement. Five fellows will be selected for 2010-2011. Work will be based in Lusaka, Zambia, though travel to various parts of the country may be required.

Duration: 10-12 months (with allowances made for medical / graduate school interviews if needed). All applicants must be available to start in early July 2010.

Compensation: Fellows receive a monthly stipend of $1500 to cover travel to and from Zambia and basic living expenses (Please note: airfares to and from Zambia are not paid for separately by the program). Group housing, costs related to program activities, and local and emergency evacuation insurance will be provided.

Application Procedures: Send your completed application form (attached) to Muleba Matafwali, Administrative Coordinator (). Deadline for applications is March 5, 2010. Phone interviews will be conducted for selected applicants; final decisions are expected in late March 2010.

Contact Information: For additional information or questions regarding HIVCorps, contact Muleba Matafwali. For a more detailed description of CIDRZ activities, please check our website at www.cidrz.org.
