Position: Artists’ Supports (Aosdána) Manager

  1. Role Overview
A key strategic priority of the Arts Council is the support and development of the artist. The Council established Aosdána in 1981 to honour artists whose work has made an outstanding contribution to the creative arts in Ireland, and to encourage and assist members in devoting their energies fully to their art.
The role of Artists’ Supports (Aosdána)Manager is tomanage and co-ordinate administrative supports to Aosdána, including membership issues, arrangements to do with the Cnuas/pensions, meetings of the Toscaireacht and the Annual General Assembly. The role may also include other programmes and schemes to support individual artists.

  1. Key Responsibilities
As a manager:
•Drive the values, vision and mission of the Arts Council;
•Actively contribute to the delivery of the Arts Council’s strategic goals and the ten year strategy Making Great Art Work;
•Strive to develop and implement ways of working effectively to meet objectives;
•Lead the team/project teams by example, coaching and supporting individuals as required;
•Be flexible and willing to adapt, positively contributing to the implementation of change;
•Take responsibility and be accountable for the delivery of agreed objectives;
•Successfully manage a range of different projects and work activities at the same time;
•Delegate work effectively, providing clear information and evidence as to what is required;
•Practice and promote a strong focus on delivering high performance and service delivery;
•Contribute to strategic decision-making where required;
•Create and maintain collaborative internal and external relationships;
•Make clear and timely decisions on important issues as required.
As Aosdána Registrar:
•Co-ordinate quarterly Toscaireacht meetings and annual joint meeting with the Arts Council;
•Manage the Toscaireacht and Saoi election processes;
•Co-ordinate the annual General Assemblyincluding the process of electing new members and member discussion on issues relevant to Aosdána and the arts generally;
•Provide information and advice to members to assist them in making a Cnuas application, assess applications and make recommendations to Council, oversee the processing of payments and pension/health insurance deductions, monitor compliance with terms and conditions and annual reporting process;
•Develop and manage annual budgets;
•Manage maintenance of website;
•Develop submission to Arts Council Annual report;
•Contribute to the management of the Human Resources, Professional Development and Performance Management, Health and Safety and Information and Records needs of the team.
  1. Role Demands
•A keen understanding of the role of the Arts Council and the policy environment for supporting the individual artist in Ireland;
•Good interpersonal skills, including an ability to listen and negotiate;
•Evidence of experience in policy development particularly in regard to the individual artist and issues affecting them;
•Excellent standards of written and oral communication;
•A commitment to high standards of public service;
•Significant proven ability in management, project management and events management.
•A strong developmental background in the arts is essential.
  1. Qualifications
The successful candidate will ideally be academically strong with at least a primary degree, and preferably a post-graduate or professional qualification in a relevant area.
