Robotics Quarter 1 Syllabus

Course Description:

Welcome to Robotics. It is my teaching philosophy that students learn by doing. Robotics is lab based and interactive. This requires students to be present in class every day. Throughout this year, students will learn how to construct robots, manually operate the robots with remote controls and with basic computer programming that will be downloaded to the robots. Students will also participate in STEM activities and learn computer aided drafting using Solidworks and Autodesk Fusion.

Science Objectives to be Mastered:

This quarter, we will focus on the construction of the robots. Students will also learn about engineering and engineering problem solving in a flexible format. Students will be given introductions to the VEX Robotics Design System. They will learn key STEM principles through a process that captures the excitement and engagement of robotics.

Grades:

Grades will be based on a variety of assessments:

Tests, Projects and Challenges accounts for 60%

Class work, Participation, and Notebooks accounts for 40%

Tests will come from notes kept in student composition notebook. Each quarter, students will read an AR article and complete a test. Challenges will be based on the skill practiced throughout the week. Classwork grades will be based on daily participation and completed notebook. A cumulative test will be given at the end of each quarter.

Supplies Needed: Composition notebook, pencil, jump drive and a $10 fee that can be paid online or in the office.

Make-up Work:

If a student is absent, that student is responsible for completing the work missed. It is the responsibility of the student to gather missed assignments.

Homework:

Students are responsible for writing homework assignments in their planner, completing the assignments, and returning it to school.
