Established in 1889, Roanoke Catholic, a regional Catholic school, operates under the auspices of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond, Office of Catholic Schools. A co-educational, college preparatory school located in Roanoke, VA, the student body is composed of young men and women from varied socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds who reflect the diversity of the greater Roanoke valley.

SCHOOL ACCREDITATION
RoanokeCatholicSchool, a regional school of the Diocese of Richmond, is accredited by the Virginia Catholic Educational Association (VCEA) and by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

COLLEGE PREPARATORY CURRICULUM
Effective 2010-2011 Roanoke Catholic School students may earn either a Standard Diploma or an Advanced College Preparatory Diploma. The Commonwealth of Virginia requires 24 credits for graduation with grades 9-12. While ensuring that this is achieved, RCS requires that a student completes 32 High School credits across grades 8 through 12. Minimum graduation requirements include classes mandated by the Virginia Department of Education plus Theology. Credit requirements for grades 8 – 12 include:

CLASS RANK
RoanokeCatholicSchool, like other rigorous college preparatory schools, does not rank students. Class rank can be misleading since only a college preparatory curriculum is offered and each graduating class is small.
GPA and COURSE INFORMATION
Unweighted GPA is determined by using a 100/4.33scale. Honors classes use a weighted 100/4.5 scale and AP/DE classes use a weighted 100/5.33 scale
Due to the level of difficulty of their subject matter, Calculus, and Calculus II are considered Honors courses. For the 2014-2015 academic year, Advanced Placement (AP) courses are offered in English Composition, English Literature, U.S. History, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. AP English Composition,AP English Literature, and Advanced Grammar & Composition are also Dual Enrollment (DE) courses. For 2014-2015, Spanish IV and French V are the highest level of foreign languages offered.
National Parks Experience fulfills the requirements of a lab science semester course.
SENIOR PROJECT
Satisfactory completion of the senior research project is a requirement for graduation. This project combines the formal research paper and the senior speech. The paper must be 10-12 typed pages with a minimum of ten sources, according to MLA guidelines; the 3-5 minute speech is presented to the school community. The grade and credit for this project are recorded separately on the student transcript.
SERVICE
Roanoke Catholic believes that service to school and community is an integral part of a Christian education; all students are involved in service projects. Each student in the Upper School is required to annually contribute a minimum of 40 hours of service.
