RPTA 105: Managerial Report Form
This assignment is to be typed, although it may be written in first person, rather than third person. Below, I have briefly described what you are to do for each section. As you may notice, some of them overlap slightly. This is okay for the context of this assignment.
There will not be an actual “form” handed out for this, but rather, you are to simply address each of these areas in your write-up. You will have to complete this only once during the semester, and it will correlate to the time that you are group leader (manager). Although it is listed on the assignment schedule on the same date as the managerial assignment, this report is to be turned in one week after the due date of the managerial assignment where you served as manager.

Description of Organization/Agency

In your own words (or using an agreed upon statement), briefly explain what your company is.

Managerial Report

Write a brief introductory paragraph describing your feelings before beginning this assignment or any special circumstances related to the overall management of the organization under you. Then address each of the following areas specifically, noting that each area potentially has several questions.Think of the different management theories and the styles of decision making we have studied in relation to the answers of some of the questions. The overall report should be two to four pages, depending on if you double space the report or not.

Leadership style:

How did you lead the group? Were you very centralized in your power, or was this more of a democratic type of arrangement? Did you assume group members (employees) were capable and eager to please, or did you assume that they would have to be forced into action?

Communication:

How did the group communicate with each other under your leadership? Was it a smooth process, or was there a lot of in-fighting and mis-communication? What were some of the barriers to communication you had to overcome? How did the group communicate outside of the classroom? Did communication hinder the final product at all? What were all of the communication situations you found yourself in?

Motivation:

How did you motivate the group members? How did you keep them focused on the task? Were they self-starters or did they need a lot of prodding?

Delegation:

As you can see, each of these sections overlaps, as is common with managing in general. In terms of delegation of specific roles in the group, was that your decision or did you ask for volunteers? Did you try to match specific skills with certain assignments, or was that even possible?

Decision Making Style:

How did your decision-making style affect group performance? Were you able to address your weakness and pull from your strengths? Discuss your specific decision-making style and how that played out overall with managing the group.

Self-Evaluation:

Give yourself and overall evaluation. What were you good at? What would you change? What did you learn about your management style and about management in general?

Group Evaluation:

In the space below, rank the participation of each group member (including yourself) with 10 being the highest and 1 being the lowest. Remember, you are evaluating them on what their assigned task was. You can’t mark them down for not contributing if they did not understand what they were to do. Likewise, if someone takes over the entire project, even though they worked hard, they may have created tension and problems in the group. Making sure everyone understands her/his assignment is essential, and then following through with making sure they did what they said they would.

* Although it is understood that in a real agency, manager evaluations are usually available to the employee, these participation evaluations will be kept confidential. The scores will be added from each managerial assignment (meaning each person will have a chance to evaluate the group) and then added as a section of your final grade in the class (in the homework/quizzes section). You can attach this page to the back of your managerial report.

**In a brief statement, indicate each group member’s name and what their portion of the project was.
