RIVER DELL HIGH SCHOOL

MR. REILLY- SPANISH TEACHER- GRADING SYSTEM:

Dear Parents,

I look forward to having an exciting and wonderful school year!I would like to inform you of my grading system.

  • Each marking period grade is calculated by a point system. 80% of the marking period grade is from tests, quizzes, and projects. 20% is from assignments and participation. Participation can take a variety of forms (being on time, being prepared, completing classwork and homework, and observing classroom rules). A weekly participation grade of up to 4 points is given. For more details on the how class participation is measured, please see the “Class Participation” grading system on the class Schoolwires page, under “Expectations and Grading” for Spanish 1 Period 2.

  • Quizzes are announced ahead of time, and are intended to help students practice for a test. The best way to prepare for quizzes is to participate, ask questions, do the homework, and study.

  • Tests are based on the chapter and class work. They may assess a student’s ability in Spanish tolisten, speak, read, or write. Tests may also assess knowledge of vocabulary, grammar, and culture.

  • Projects are assigned periodically, and may be individual or group projects. Projects typically enable students to demonstrate their ability in Spanish outside the realm of typical pencil-and-paper tests.

  • Make up work (from excused absences) such as homework, quizzes, test and class work must be made up promptly. If a student misses my class because of a field trip, music lessons, or other activities, he/she must see me before the activity to discuss make-up. If he/she arrives late to school, he/she is expected to hand in any work that is due or take quizzes/test that day.

  • Extra help is available upon appointment, preferably with one day’s advance notice. Appointments can be made in advance in person (just ask) or by e-mail.

  • The best way to contact me is through e-mail, which is .

I want to take the opportunity to thank you in advance for all of your help and cooperation. Please be sure to check Schoolwiresand Genesis in order to keep track of assignments and your child’s progress. I look forward to meeting you on Back to School Night. Please sign the Student-Parent-Teacher contractto indicate that you have read my grading system and the document titled “Course Expectations and Class Conduct.” Please refer to this document throughout the academic year.

Sincerely yours,

Mr. Reilly
