Job purpose

To be responsible for the development and execution of Openstorytellers’ Communications Strategy.

To take responsibility for external communications and pro-actively developing opportunities to engage target audiences.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

To develop and manage the charity’s communication strategy.

  • To plan, develop and implement PR and communication strategies, across all media, including website, press, printed material, social media, to fulfil the business objectives of the charity
  • To prepare and supervise the production of publicity brochures, hand-outs, leaflets, promotional videos and photographs – ensuring they are appropriate for the target audience
  • To lead on copy-writing and production of key Openstorytellers’ publications including Annual Report and newsletter
  • Research and write copy for external articles and press
  • To lead on the development and monitoring of brand guidelines and key messages

To develop the charity’s web-site and digital media as effective marketing tools

  • To take responsibility for the development and management of Openstorytellers’ website, including keeping content up to date and appropriate, driving improvements and advising colleagues on maximising its potential.
  • To lead on the copy-writing and production of monthly e-bulletins.
  • To implement and expand a social media strategy to raise Openstorytellers’ profile and market Openstorytellers’ activities

To perform a management role within the organisation

  • To prepare and monitor the annual communications budget
  • To represent the charity when the Director is unavailable
  • To line-manage a Communications Intern and / or Communications Volunteers, monitoring and evaluating their activities and providing support with staff development.

To implement market research and analysis

  • To plan a programme of research, analysis and monitoring that will inform the work of the Senior Management Team
  • To conduct customer research, both qualitative and quantitative, from participants, families, schools & colleges and other stakeholder groups
