ABSTRACT

Flotation works very well for particles that are typically in the range 20 to 150 μm in diameter, for base metal ores. In this range, it is possible to obtain quite high recoveries in conventional flotation machines. Outside this range, the recoveries decline progressively, whether it is with the very fine or the coarse end of the size spectrum.

This paper discusses a new layered convection coarse particle flotation column. It is modified on the basis of conventional flotation column. It’s advantage is that the flotation column use a circulating pump control 8 circulating pipes. These pipes in the form of a symmetric distribution and every pipe is equipped with many switches. It can achieve the purpose of the flotation ofagrainlevel mineral particles by these switches. Therefore, It can be used to the flotation of allgrainlevel and expand the flotation size range. In addition, the feed port and throat of theflotation columnin the form ofinclined pipeline to preventblockage. Each circulating pipe with a cleaning port, once found any blockage, it can clean directly the pipe through cleaning portand don't need the whole unload down, attaining the aim of repair is convenient. On the feed tube, there are a flowmeter and a switchto measured flow and control the flotation separately. The structure of flotation column make pulp form layered convection inside the cylinder, so as to realize the mixing of pulp, potions and air.

With monohydrate bauxite as an example in Guizhou, the ore containing alumina 61.55%, the silicon oxide is 10.99% and alumina-silica ratio is 5.60. There is a reverse flotation desilication experiment by the flotation column. The flotation maximum particle size is 500 μm. It’s recovery can reach 80.33% and alumina-silica ratio is 10.07.It improves the disadvantages of conventional flotation column that only use flotation microgranular mineral. At the same time, it also expands the flotation size range, inheriting the advantages that the cover a small area and easy maintenance, realizing the purpose of saving energy. It makes a huge contribution to mineral processing field.
