Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a fixed-term contract position as a Research Nurse – Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD). This position will be based in the HRB Clinical Research Facility, Galway (CRFG) within NUI Galway and the IBD services at Galway University Hospitals. The position is available immediately and the contract will be initially for 1 year with potential for renewal for up to 3 years.

The HRB Clinical Research Facility, Galway’s remit is to increase the amount of clinical research currently happening in Ireland. When fully operational, the CRFG will employ a staff of 20. Medical doctors and nurses will work with other scientists to improve our understanding of a variety of diseases and to develop new tests and treatments to help tackle these diseases. The Centre will provide patients with the latest advances in areas such as cancer, obstetrics and gynaecology, diabetes, inflammatory diseases, critical Illness, cystic fibrosis and cardiovascular disease. Purpose of Post

The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary team who engage with researchers and clinicians to support patient-focused research studies and audit activities in IBD. These activities are aimed at increasing research into the cause and complications of IBD, development of novel therapies for IBD, auditing IBD clinical services and integrating that knowledge to improve all aspects of IBD care in the west of Ireland as quickly as possible.

The Research Staff Nurse will work under the direction of the Director of the HRB Clinical Research Facility, Galway and the Principal Investigator for IBD research (Professor Laurence Egan). Within the remit of this post, the successful individual will have responsibility for a caseload of IBD patients on clinical trials and research projects. The individual will be expected to lead under direction of CRFG on areas such as individual research projects, engage in nurse-led research, audit and education, contribute to papers that arise from the studies undertaken, and attend relevant national and international meetings. The Research Nurse will support the ongoing development of CRFG.The Research Nurse will be an integral part of the IBD clinical care services at Galway University Hospitals including attendance at outpatient clinics, coordination of IBD patient care and recruitment of IBD patients into clinical studies. Experience of working in an Irish hospital is an advantage.

Essential:

  • Candidates must be registered or be eligible to register in the General Division of the register
  • The clinical and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
  • Ability to perform Clinical Patient Assessment
  • An understanding of Researchand the Research process

Note any offer of employment will be dependent on successful Gárda Clearance.

Salary Range: €38,286 – €44,871 per annum.

Public sector pay policy in relation to new entrants will apply.
